French Toon Studio TeamTO Blossoms at 10, Sells ‘YellowBird’ to Universal

16 June 2015 10:50 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Turning 10 this year, TeamTO has blossomed into one of France’s top animation producers, forging ties with local and international players and diving into feature films.

Boasting sprawling high-tech facilities in Paris and Bourg-les-Valences (near Lyon), TeamTO raised its profile thanks to in-house-produced hit TV skeins like “Angelo Rules,” “Oscar & Co” and “Plankton Invasion.” Now advancing into the next chapter of its growth, the shingle’s first feature-length toon, “Yellowbird” is already an international sales hit. Repped by Sc Films, the animated pic has been acquired by Universal for a flurry of territories, including the U.K. and Australia.

“We’re managed to make ‘Yellowbird’ with a 10 million Euros budget, which is much less than the price tags of ‘Little Prince’ and ‘Mune’ and yet our film boasts the same drive to travel worldwide thanks to ambitious storytelling and well-polished animation designs,” said Corrine Kouper, TeamTO’s co-founder, head of development and exec producer. »

Want to Know the Latest on Disney’s Top Children’s Shows? Ask the Creative’s Kids

12 June 2015 12:00 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

When you’re the creator of a hit Disney animated TV series, it helps to have kids of your own in your target demo to offer feedback and inspiration. It certainly hasn’t hurt Disney Xd’s Emmy-winning “Phineas and Ferb,” whose endless summer finally reaches its conclusion tonight, June 12, after 126 episodes.

“When he asks for my opinion, I try to be as honest as I can,” says Jeff “Swampy” Marsh’s 14-year-old son Django, who was 6 when Marsh and co-creator Dan Povenmire sold the show to Disney. Marsh has woven some stories from Django’s life into the series. “He does seem to steal bits,” Django says. “Like the episode where the characters went to rock ’n’ roll camp. And I’m pretty sure the whole hockey episode happened because I was playing hockey at the time.”

Marsh laughs. “I’m just waiting for my son to realize that »

30 March 2015 1:56 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big Bang Theory was an instant TV hit when it burst onto screens in 2007, though at the time, Melissa Rauch was resigned to watching the lives of Sheldon, Leonard and Penny unfolding on her TV set, unaware that she was soon to become one of the most loveable characters on the show.

Rauch first appeared as the sweet Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski in a recurring role throughout Season 3, but was quickly moved up to become a series regular as her unlikely relationship with hopeless womaniser Howard Wolowitz flourished.

The 34-year-old’s character eventually married Howard and is a key member of the show, but she has also left room in her schedule to feature in other projects alongside her $60,000 per episode deal for The Big Bang Theory. Walt Disney Will Push for Prices in Kids’ Ad-Sales Market

Walt Disney will in coming months deliver a spinoff of “The Lion King” aimed at preschoolers; an animated series about a boy and his worm; and a live-action movie featuring the kids of some of the company’s most famous animated villains. What it probably won’t be giving, however, are pricing concessions to advertisers who want to sponsor such programs.

With viewership for kids’ programming splintering thanks to streaming video and mobile devices and more demand for such fare from nontraditional advertisers,  kids’ networks find themselves in an interesting position, said Rita Ferro, exec VP, Disney Media Sales and Marketing, Disney Channels Worldwide. “I think we are going to have a tremendous amount of demand that has been created in kids’ advertising,” she said in an interview at the company’s New York offices, which are decorated with toys and gadgets. “There is absolutely going to be a look »
