8 Reels of Sewage - Title or review?
mailbernard1 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Such a difficult movie to assess. Can't make up my mind whether it's an attempt to do a Mel Brooks (in which case it fails) or a deliberate and indeed successful attempt to create something truly awful (c.f.The Producers)- in which case it still fails because it wholly lacks Brooks's genius. I.e., Brooks couldn't make a truly bad movie if he tried. The acting isn't just "acting bad", it's genuinely crass, because you're left with the feeling it's the best that cast members and director can do. It's not really funny, it's certainly not porn. In my view, the title says it all, which at least is honest. Sorry.

The title says it all. 8 reels dripping with sewage

I watched the entire film and cannot figure out who is the intended audience. There is some mild female topless nudity beginning at 3:55 during the title sequence and sporadic nudity throughout, but a voyeur would need a strong will to make it through the pointless dialogue and lackluster editing separating one topless scene until the next one. The sequences in which the protagonist is supposed to be making an adult movie are strange since there is almost no nudity in those scenes during which one might expect to see full nudity. The acting alternates between over the top to considerably under the top, if there is such a thing. In several scenes, there is a character who chews and swallows the scenery with his acting while playing against other characters who appear to be doing their first read through of the script.

I can't recommend this movie, but gave it three stars out of respect to the actors, several of whom seemed to be serious about putting in a good performance but certainly deserved to be in a better movie than this.

'8 REELS OF SEWAGE'

'8 REELS OF SEWAGE' Beyond Filth Productions . 2012 Jared Masters

Spoiler-free synopsis: The story is about an adult film editor quitting her current employment, and going out with her own cast to make her very own adult film.

I have a strong affection and fondness for Jared Masters' films. ...What can I say? So much so, that I wanted to be in his movies. I wanted my name attached to his name and his production house (Frolic Pictures) in some way or fashion. Little did I know that one day I would be labeled as a producer and supporting-actor in his later/newer films.

While I will be transparent and caring with who I am and my words, I will not grade these films with 'Stars' as to be fair and respectful to Jared, his fans, and the public. Hopefully, me leaving the 'Stars' blank will not affect his scores.

This film was the first I saw of Jared's, and it made me an instant fan of his! This was my first Jared Masters experience.

From the cool, swinging, Pulpy music score, to the artfully shot monochrome world we are presented with, the movie as a whole has been something that I have always enjoyed through my many, many repeated viewings.

I enjoy a good opening credit scene, and this one has it! Actress Mariella Jacqueline is our presenter through the handwritten list of players' and crew members' names that are attached/taped to film reel containers. And what a list it is! Jacqueline Guzmán-Cereceres, Julia Faye West, Mantha Balourdou, Stephanie Hernandez, Geo Sargent, Randy Masters, and many more helped bring this story together. I can easily say that Jared, and this cast and crew of his charmed me with their hard work and sense of fun. I have to say, I am always jealous and sad when watching Jared's earlier works - Jealous and sad that I missed out on all the work and fun!

I was raised by my father to try and never say the word 'Love' when directed at material and what some might consider "trivial objects". Basically save the word for people - family and friends. I love my finance Naomi, I love my sisters, I love my dad, I love my dachshund Yo-Yo. And with all that said, I will always allow myself this one single exception: "I love Jared Masters' films."

I dream and hope for more visits from the Pulpy world of Jared Masters.
