Honest Love Story
annbss6 May 2024
Love in Tahiti is one of the most real, beautiful and loving film in the most spectacular scenery view of the mountains and the ocean. The story is well directed and it's a joy to watch. The characters played their roles well and I really like the location of the film. It feels romantic and sailing is my favorite thing to learn and go to Tahiti one day. There is no rush in the film and I kinda love the slow pace and the way the movie is filmed. It feels so warm and cozy to watch maybe in a sailboat. The ending was just perfectly well shot. Tahiti or French Polynesia is my favorite island to travel to.

Good writing and story telling
mavred2 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Yes this is your typical Hallmark type story with nothing that strays too far from they usual plot to make it stand out. However the way to judge these movies is not by their uniqueness but by how well the story is written and told.

In this case the writing is significantly better than your average movie of this type. You can tell that care was taken with the script and effort put into making this story deeper and more believable than the typical movie of this genre.

Spoiler alerts: For example the father previously had a stroke and each night the daughter stretches him out at bedtime. This is a great detail that adds depth to both characters and gives them cause to reflect on the day and move the story along in a novel way.

There is also a scene where the lead female fixes a problem with the boats engine. The writers took the time to establish her competence with the engine and the driving force for her knowledge. And the lead male character wasn't relegated to an idiot standing by looking stupid. It is a good example of how to show a strong female in a believable context without simultaneously showing the male to be incompetent.

The last example I will give is a meeting between the two lead characters. He asks her how her morning tour went and she replied something like "Drama free". That little bit of writing adds depth to the story and characters as most of us can immediately relate to what she said, how she said it and what it means to you as an individual. Had she said "fine" or "it was great" the scene would have worked as a greeting and passed on with no note. That she notes there was no drama you can immediately identify with her and the days that haven't gone so well.

I enjoyed the movie and very much enjoyed feeling like the people who made it had a higher opinion of their audience than most of the people making these movies today.

A magical Romance! Oran Strainbrook & co-star glow w overwhelming chemistry
sinnerofcinema20 January 2024
Loved this movie. Not usually into romance films, but this one works beautifully. It's heartfelt. The actors are very good and most importantly for these kinds of film there is amazing chemistry between both protagonist. That's half the film right there. The locations and cinematography will totally win you over. Oran Stainbrook is in another movie "Altered Perceptions" currently a contender for this years Oscars. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both him and the film. Watching "Love in Tahiti" just reinforces what a leading man he is and the dexterity he's got w different story genres. The father also was very good. I would definitely recommend this film to couples or anyone seeking a heart warming romance adventure. Congrats to the filmmakers.

Slow, plodding love story

Warning: Spoilers
I've watched many a film from Candlelight Entertainment, which produced this film. I guess I have a soft spot in my heart for them, because they are from Utah and so am I. But I can't pretend that their movies are very good, because most of them aren't. Love in Tahiti was no exception.

The cinematography, to be fair, is quite good in this one, and they certainly display gorgeous French Polynesia in all its incredible splendor. Otherwise, the movie was basically a waste of 90 minutes of my life. The actors in this film are B-grade actors at best. The supporting actors, especially Travis, the fiancee of the lead girl Brielle's sister Piper, was especially bad. I'm sure this low-budget flick procured the best actors they could afford, but the difference between them and an A-list actor is obvious for everyone to see.

The there's the writing. It's just boring. Nothing much happens. The two leads sail around, looking for a ring, but there is no urgency to finding it. We're not even sure that the guy Marcus wants to find it and reunite with his ex-fiancee. They try to stir up some drama with the dad being disapproving of Piper and Marcus' engagement, but there's no real anger or passion there. Even the slow-burn romance between Brielle and Marcus is kind of a snoozer. Not much chemistry or fire there. And when their boat is stranded in the ocean, giving the script an opportunity for some excitement, it turns into a big, fat nothingburger. They don't even have a confrontation between Marcus and his ex-fiancee Monica. That, at least, could have been a little interesting. Did they just run out of budget to hire an actress to play her, except in photos?

Watching this movie was like relaxing in your back porch swing on a beautiful, summer day. It's sweet. It's pleasant. But nothing much happens. I wish our friends at Candlelight, who make their bread and butter on romance, would learn to produce romance movies that are really compelling. This romance movie was just a big yawn.
