This episode brings the de facto relationship between Spartacus and Glaber, full circle to the pilot episode of the series by repeating certain tropes. In the beginning of this episode, Spartacus stands alone at the edge of a cliff looking down on Glaber's men comfortably encamped with food and shelter; while to his back, his people stand cold and hungry. Such was the same in episode one of "Blood & Sand." Equally in both the pilot and "Wrath of the gods", Illythia travels to Glaber's camp due to missing him and convinces him to accelerate his plans in order to hasten him home.
When Spartacus and his most trusted went to save the Germans who attempted to ambush the Romans, he stands toe to toe with the Egyptian and overpowers him; making him the only of the four Champions from the House of Batiatus to stand against him alone and win.
