Spartacus realizes his racially divided troop is neglecting its defense, proves it with a mock Roman surprise attack on the temple ruin and finds a way to get his men training and bonding, through competition and wine. Unexpectedly, Varinius arrives to 'relieve Glaber' just when Ashur has located Spartacus's lair. Ilythia informs Seppia that Glaber had her brother murdered to turn her rival into a weapon against him, but at the last moment saves and apparently reconciles with her startled husband. Written by

While Glaber and Ashur reference the map to gather Spartacus' whereabouts, The Egyptian arrives carrying Lucius' head and breaks words with Ashur. This is the only time the Egyptian is ever seen or heard speaking. See more
Varinius is incorrect when he tells Glaber he is not bound by the Senate's decision for him to return to Rome. At that period of Rome's history there were 8 praetors subordinate to the two lead magistrates, the Consuls. Praetors held imperium (the power to lead an army) but only if a Consular army was not available or required (Rome's initial response to the uprising was to underestimate the force required) The Senate would have voted the army to Glaber's authority they could (and regularly did) remove that authority if they wished.
