Not exactly the most exciting ratings bulletin today as we begin with A.C.O.D., which The Film Arcade picked up out of Sundance and has yet to set a release date. The comedy stars a large crew of notables including Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jessica Alba, Jane Lynch, Adam Scott, Amy Poehler, Richard Jenkins, Catherine O'Hara and Clark Duke and was directed by first timer Stu Zicherman. As for the title, it stands for Adult Children of Divorce. And then, if you can believe this, someone gave Steve Brill another film. Brill directed the "iBabe" segment of Movie 43 and before that such classics as Little Nicky, Without a Paddle and Drillbit Taylor. This time around the film is Walk of Shame centering on a reporter (Elizabeth Banks) whose dream of becoming a news anchor is in jeopardy after she's left stranded in downtown Los Angeles after a one-night stand. The fact...

He Who Dares, the latest film from Paul Tanter (The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan), has officially wrapped production. The movie is a British action thriller described as a cross between The Raid and Die Hard. And with a description like that, our interest is understandably piqued.
Due out at the end of the year, we’ve been given the first poster for He Who Dares to debut, bearing the slogan, ‘Fight. Kill. Win.’ Just the kind of sentiment you want from an action film.
On Christmas Eve a group of ruthless masked terrorists kidnap the Prime Minister’s daughter, fortifying themselves in an underground car park rigged with explosives. Crack Sas operative Chris Lowe and his team are sent in and must take the building one level at a time.

British actor and Terry director Nick Nevern has made a career out of depicting hardened characters through a series of football hooligan and career criminal roles in the past few years, as well as donning fangs and claws as a werewolf.
His new film, The Fall of the Essex Boys, directed by Paul Tanter (The Rise & Fall of a White Collar Hooligan), sees Nevern play supergrass Darren Nicholls, the supposed fourth member of the notorious Essex Boys drugs gang that included Pat Tate, Tony Tucker and Craig Rolfe who brutally met their fate in a country lane in Rettendon, Essex, in December 1995.
Nevern discusses the new angle Tanter’s film offers into the ongoing mystery of the Essex Boys’ deaths and who was ultimately responsible, how he portrayed Nicholls, and what it’s like working with his mates, Tanter, Peter Barrett, Simon Phillips etc.

Simon Phillips is a busy, busy guy. Having regularly collaborated with director and often-times producing partner Dominic Burns on a number of features, he recently stretched his legs a little more with his directorial debut, GBH (you can read our review here). No sooner was that released than we’ve been treated to the exclusive trailer for UFO, which sees Simon back on acting and producing duties, while Dominic steps once again behind the camera.
We were able to catch up with Simon this week, to chat about GBH and how these various projects of his are coming along.
HeyUGuys: When we last spoke it was for the release of How To Stop Being A Loser, since when you have directed GBH, released White Collar Hooligan and now wrapped on UFO. Your days must be pretty full?

Damien (Nick Nevern) is a London policeman, having joined the force from a difficult upbringing. In his spare time he is a borderline football hooligan and while on duty he frequently disregards proper rules to either get a friend’s charges lifted or put the boot in on a suspect who he doesn’t like. As tensions in London build towards the riots of summer 2011, Damien tries to keep his building rage under control while trying to establish a relationship with Louise (Kellie Shirley) a new police officer he has been partnered with.

Following on from Paul Tanter’s The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan we’ve got out hands on some exclusive stills from the next film from the team.
GBH marks the directorial debut of Simon Phillips, seen recently leading the comedy How to Stop Being a Loser as well as Tanter’s Jack trilogy, it’ll be interesting to see the energy Phillips brings to the film which, though it may not differ from the stable’s recent output in subject matter, should provide fertile ground to stamp his directing style.
Nick Nevern leads the film with Kellie Shirley and Steven Berkoff heading up the cast. Here’s a synopsis,
GBH is a powerful tale of justice and vengeance starring Damien (Nick Nevern) a London copper with a past he’s trying to forget. Before signing up for the force he ran with a football firm, getting...

Here is the trailer and an summary of the plot from the press release:
GBH is a powerful tale of justice and vengeance starring Damien (Nick Nevern) a London copper with a past he’s trying to forget. Before signing up for the force he ran with a football firm, getting involved in tear-ups up and down the country. Director: Paul Tanter. Review: Adam Wing. The ad campaign for The Rise & Fall of a White Collar Hooligan is keen to suggest that Paul Tanter’s latest movie is a gritty British drama about football hooliganism. It’s not. There are times when it touches on sporting themes, gangs and violence, but anyone expecting the next ‘I.D’ is in for a shock. White Collar Hooligan is a fast paced crime thriller that moves away from football, firms and clashes in order to tell the well-worn tale of loyalty, betrayal and greed – available on DVD in the UK courtesy of Momentum Pictures. It follows the fortunes of a die-hard football fan drawn into the life of easy money, fast women and theft. Or should that be fast money and easy women? I can never tell. Mike Jacobs (Nick Nevern) is no stranger to finding himself on the wrong side of the law.

Gangster movies are familiar cinematic fare, but The Rise And Fall Of A White Collar Hooligan is does something different. Its mission is to explore a new kind of crime, apparently victimless, and show how gang involvement can make anything ugly. Nick Nevern plays the football hooligan who gets out of his depth in the world of credit card fraud. He spoke to us about how it all began.
"I didn't have an audition for the part," he says cheerfully. "I was working on this other film, Strippers Versus Werewolves, with Simon Phillips, and I only had a small part in that but we really hit it off. Then I was on holiday in Crete and he called me up and said he had me in mind for the lead in this film. I said 'When does it start shooting?' and he said 'Next week.' I though I wouldn't be able.

“The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan” is a Brit crime drama written and directed by Paul Tanter, one of the diamond geezers behind the recent “Jack” trilogy. This should give a pretty good idea of what to expect, Tanter trying to mix football violence, gangsters, drugs and credit card fraud, with plenty of thick London accents along the way. Starring Nick Nevern (“Strippers vs Werewolves”) in the lead, the film, which lands shortly on region 2 DVD via Momentum, features a supporting cast full of semi-recognisable Brit character actors, including Simon Phillips, Billy Murray and Peter Barrett, all of whom appeared together in the recent Mark Hamill chiller “Airborne”. Nevern plays Mike Jacobs, a standard laddish football hooligan type, who runs into an old friend called Eddie (Phillips) during a good old fashioned riot. Hard up for cash and being pressured by his girlfriend to make something of himself,...

Silent Souls (15)
(Aleksei Fedorchenko, 2010, Rus) Igor Sergeev, Yuriy Tsurilo, Yuliya Aug. 78 mins
Even by Russian standards, this lyrical road movie is a strange world of its own. It's a journey back in time, as much as across a remote landscape, with a friend helping his boss to give his deceased wife her last rites, according to their ancient tribal ways. Along the drive, we're steeped in strange folklore involving vodka, rivers, small birds and ornamental pubic hair. Is it for real? Or an elaborate joke told with a very straight face? Does it matter?
The Five Year Engagement (15)
(Nicholas Stoller, 2012, Us) Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Chris Pratt. 124 mins
The obstacle to true love is built into the title of this romcom, but it's at least smartly handled, as high-flyer Blunt keeps her fiance in perpetual limbo.
