Indian Streamer SonyLIV Reveals 35-Strong 2023 Series Slate, 24 Million Paid Subscribers (Exclusive)
Indian streamer SonyLIV has revealed a robust 35-strong series slate, including some returning hits, with a further expansion into South Indian languages in addition to its Hindi-language slate.
Headquartered in Mumbai, the streamer now has three content offices in South India, in Kochi, Hyderabad and Chennai. SonyLIV also now has 24 million paid subscribers, SonyLIV head of content Saugata Mukherjee told Variety.
In the Tamil language, after the success of “Tamil Rockerz” in 2022 and “The Story of Things” earlier this year, SonyLIV has saga “Journey,” headlined by R. Sarathkumar with Cheran Pandian (“Autograph”) serving as showrunner; and “The Madras Murder,” set against the backdrop of the Tamil film industry in the 1950s and 1960s, with A.L. Vijay (“Kireedam”) as showrunner.

Director Arivazhagan’s much-awaited action thriller ‘Borderr’ featuring Arun Vijay in the lead will hit the screens on October 5 for Vijayadasami, its makers announced on Saturday. The film has huge expectations riding on it as the combination of director Arivazhagan and actor Arun Vijay has managed to deliver back-to-back successes.
The actor and director first collaborated on the medico-crime thriller ‘Kuttram 23’, which became a superhit.
The recently-released web series ‘Tamil Rockerz’ again saw the director and actor working together. As a result of having delivered successful projects back-to-back, expectations from their next film together have gone up.
Taking to Twitter, Arun Vijay, who shared the official release date announcement from the production house, said, “Really happy that my much-awaited film ‘Borrder’ will be coming to you all soon!!’
‘Borrder’ was originally supposed to hit the screens in the summer of 2020. It suffered a long schedule break due to the Covid induced lockdown.

Actor Arun Vijay, who made a dashing debut with the gripping web series ‘Tamil Rockerz’, says he has been getting calls from several viewers who, after watching the web series, have decided to avoid watching pirated copies of films and shows.
Arun plays Rudra, an investigating officer who tracks a notorious group of video pirates intent on spelling doom for the film industry, in the well-received series that is streaming on SonyLIV.
