Over the past week, wrestling fans have had plenty to process. With a new champ crowned at Survivor Series and then an even newer champ crowned again barely five minutes later, one might be scratching their head after these turn of events. At the very least, just trying to rationalize why certain people were picked for their roles is hard enough.
With all of this disarray it can be easy to miss out on some of the highlights of the past week. These highlights have included Aj Styles giving a Pele Kick to high upcoming Wrestle Kingdom opponent, Ryback completely no-selling a brutal strike from a musical instrument, and some high flying action from the Gobbledy Gooker. That last one wasn’t a joke.

I guess you could say that Sheamus’ championship reign is off to a bad start.
This week’s edition of WWE Raw drew the lowest viewership for the show since 1997, drawing an average of just 2.96 million viewers. This is also the first time that the overall viewership of Raw has dipped below 3 million viewers since 1997. Last week’s show drew an average of 3.29 million viewers.
What makes this number worse is the fact that it comes on the heels of the Survivor Series, one of the four biggest PPV shows of the year for WWE. Not only that, but the fact that WWE crowned a brand new World Heavyweight Champion on Sunday night and record low levels of viewers tuned in to see the new champion on Monday shows just how badly positioned the company is moving into WrestleMania season.

So much for the might of the Roman Empire. After the underwhelming waves caused by Survivor Series and Sheamus becoming WWE World Heavyweight Champion we’re now looking at a vastly different landscape to how the plan was supposed to go before Seth Rollins’ knee exploded.
Tonight’s Raw – the first after Roman so quickly surrendered his belt – needs to do a lot of things, but first and foremost it needs to entertain a hell of a lot more than the event it’s landing after.
Will we see the return of the pantomime villain Authority boasting of Sheamus’s success, or will they rightfully let Reigns, Sheamus and Ambrose work out their differences into a satisfying feud that doesn’t rely on the smug gloating presence of Triple H as the ringmaster again? Only one of those approaches would be right.
And luckily we’ve got the perfect accompaniment »
