The film won the trophy for best Science Fiction film at the Hollywood Teen Film Festival. The Award was presented to the young filmmakers by actor Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters).
"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" was planned as a follow-up to this film. This second fan film project was reported on in issue #119 of Starlog Magazine (June, 1987). "Y:ATTH" went into production in 1985, and starred George Takei, who reprise his famous Star Trek role of Sulu. This was also notable as being the first 'Star Trek' fan film to ever feature a lead actor from the original television series.
