If you remember a film called V/H/S from a few years back, then you’ll definitely remember a segment from it called “Amateur Night”. Written/Directed by David Bruckner, it told the tale of a group of frat boys enjoying a night out on the town, and the two girls they picked up with the intent of …

V/H/S/ Segment Amateur Night Gets Feature Treatment With Siren; Release planned for December!!

20 August 2016 1:36 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

When 2012’s V/H/S hit the horror scene, it was a new, exciting and refreshing approach to the whole found-footage type of genre fare. One of my favorite segments from that film was David Bruckner’s Amateur Night, which saw a group of guys unfortunately coming across a creepy woman who ended up being a succubus. It was a hit with horror fans and well, now it seems that Amateur Night has made its way into a full fledged feature, Siren. Featuring a new story, a pretty impressive cast and a new director, we’ve got the details for the upcoming film below!

Siren is a horror-thriller about Jonah, an apprehensive groom-to-be whose bachelor party turns into a nightmare when he frees a seemingly innocent victimized girl locked up in a supernatural sex club. Her ruthless handler and proprietor of the sex club will stop at nothing to re-capture his prize. »

Tom and I re-teamed with director Gregg Bishop – who helmed the magical “Dante the Great” segment in our VHS: Viral – on Siren, which is a feature-length horror film based on David Bruckner‘s “Amateur Night” from V/H/S. Yes, in case you were wondering, Hannah Fierman returns as Lily, who many of you know as the “I like you” girl from V/H/S! Bruckner also produced Siren, […] »

Though Based On A True Story, ‘Amateur Night’ Still Feels Like Just Another Raunchy Comedy [Review]

5 August 2016 2:36 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The biggest surprise “Amateur Night” has to offer comes after it ends, when it is revealed just how much of the film’s zany events uphold the “based on a true story” label. It is a refreshing revelation, especially after the growing insignificance of the tag, which more often than not is exposed to be a […]

Editorial: Why It’S Time For Another Blair Witch, Part 2

27 July 2016 12:48 AM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

The summer of the year that brought the 20th century to a close, for me, was a fantastic and exciting time. I had just celebrated my twenty-fifth birthday, I was living on my own in a semi-luxurious apartment and I was shamelessly indulging in the nightclub lifestyle – my weekends comprised of hitting disco after disco, losing myself in house music and coming home in the wee hours of the morning to suffer from massive hangovers later that day more than I care to remember. I had commemorated having been out of the closet for two years and I had also just taken up the pastime of re-familiarizing myself with 80’s slasher films, renting them from a still-operating mom-and-pop rental house in large numbers and watching them whenever a free moment presented itself. During a weekend outing to the local cinema in the fall of that same year to painfully sit »

25 More Annoying Movie Cliches

22 May 2016 10:11 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Movie Cliches. We all recognize them. We all roll our eyes at them. Here are another 25 movie cliches that get used waaaaaay to much.

555 for Everybody:

Every phone number in every film and TV show always starts with 555. Sometimes they’ll try to throw us off by using corresponding letters instead of the numbers, but we know better.

Captain Idiot, at Your Service:

Police captains in action films exist for one purpose—to make life difficult for the hero and to threaten to suspend him. No matter if the hero is making perfect sense and has a brilliant track record or that the captain doesn’t have a clue what to do next. He doesn’t want to listen to the hero. The captain is just there to yell at him and tell him that he’s off the case (Which the hero never obeys.)
