Last week, we reported that original Flatliners star Kiefer Sutherland has signed on to star in Sony Pictures new remake, which was scheduled to start shooting late last week. While we don't know if filming has in fact started, Sony Pictures has gone ahead and set a release date for this new Flatliners, which will hit theaters on August 18, 2017. While it is currently the only movie set for release on that date, that entire month is chocked full of high-profile releases.
The schedule for August 2017 at Box Office Mojo reveals that 20th Century Fox's Alien: Covenant and Open Road Films' Blazing Samurai will hit theaters on August 4, 2017. That will be followed by Warner Bros.' theatrical remake of CHiPS, Focus Features' The Coldest City and Sony/Columbia Pictures' EmojiMovie: Express Yourself on August 11, 2017. The only other movie slated for release that month is Disney's Villa Capri, hitting theaters »
Back in March, we reported that a reboot of the 1990 sci-fi thriller Flatliners is gearing up to start filming this summer, with Ellen Page, Diego Luna and Nina Dobrev attached to star. It was never clear if the filmmakers had planned on reaching out to original cast members such as Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon, but today we have word that Kiefer Sutherland is closing his deal to co-star in the rebooted thriller. The deal isn't finalized yet, but the actor has committed to the project.
The original film followed a group of medical students and close friends who conduct experiments with near death experiences. Each one of them has their heart stopped before being revived instantly, which causes them to experience nightmarish visions of their childhood, reflecting either sins they have committed, or sins committed against them. Their unorthodox extracurricular studies have very dark consequences, as their supernatural visions begin to intensify. »
“Flatliners” is being revived, and one of its original stars is coming with it. Kiefer Sutherland has joined the remake of the 1990 film after some rescheduling allowed him to also fulfill his obligations to the ABC series “Designated Survivor.” Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemens are all appearing in the film as well. Deadline first broke the news of Sutherland’s casting.
As of right now, the actor is the only original star returning; Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Billy Baldwin and Oliver Platt aren’t currently involved. “Flatliners” starred the quintet as a group of medical students who, not unlike kids today playing the knockout game, purposefully stop their own hearts in order to trigger near-death experiences. As you might imagine, this doesn’t end up being the best idea. »

Colin Farrell is at his best when he’s not trying to do the movie star thing. For every Total Recall, there’s a Seven Psychopaths. For every Dead Man Down, there’s an In Bruges. His career becomes even brighter when you start to appreciate how he refuses to phone in performances in movies where it would have […]

Depending on how you feel about classic 90s movies being rebooted for a new generation, this may come as very great or very disappointing news. The Flatliners remake is officially moving forward. And it's found one of its two leading men. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Diego Luna is in talks to star opposite the previously announced Ellen Page.
Niels Arden Oplev, best known for the original Norwegian version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and his stateside debut Dead Man Down, is directing from a script by Ben Ripley. Laurence Mark and Michael Douglas are producing this remake. Sony has declined to comment about the casting. Diego Luna's reps did not respond.

Wade Barrett’s reason for leaving WWE could be to pursue a career in soccer punditry. Dave Meltzer notes in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter “I do know that Barrett had been interested in being a soccer analyst in the U.K. after his wrestling days were over.”
As a passionate Preston North End fan, and having grown up in the same region as massive clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United, Barrett is very knowledgeable on all things soccer. While punditry jobs are filled with big names in the UK, he could perhaps have a career talking about soccer on the major Us networks. He’s a confident speaker and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t make a go for it if he has the ambition.
He’s also a big Rugby Union fan, which could be another avenue of sports analysis for him to work in. »
