Storyline

A man in custody at a mental hospital claims to have witnessed a rape in a break room. Despite the witness' shaky credibility the SVU begins an investigation, but the alleged victim, Gia Eskas, denies being assaulted. Detectives Benson and Rollins struggle to piece together what really happened to this young woman, especially when her aunt and mother say Gia has been repeatedly institutionalized, and has cried rape in the past. Goofs

When Darren witnesses the attack at the beginning of the episode, he tries to get help but the entire ward is deserted. He tells the SVU officers that it took place in "ward 6". Later, when the officers ask the security guard about the lack of help, she tells them "a patient had attacked someone in ward 6 so everyone had gone there to help." See more »

Quotes

Detective Amanda Rollins: You said you were assaulted? Something happened to me on the job, that's why I had to get out of there.
Detective Olivia Benson: Someone you work with?
Detective Amanda Rollins: It wasn't anything worth pursuing.
Detective Olivia Benson: That's how they win. We're not going to let that happen to Gia.

Stuck with it
28 September 2014 | by (Buffalo, New York) – See all my reviews

This show begins with young David Gelles running out naked on his driveway high on something. Ice T and Kelli Giddish bust him of course and he goes to the psych ward until he gets off whatever he's on. Then the normal course of the criminal justice system will commence.

But things proceed anything but normal when during his incarceration Gelles sees a rape in progress while he's trying to flee the hospital. The judge orders SVU to investigate and they don't even know who the victim is.

That never stopped this squad before and they do come up with the victim who denies everything. Natasha Lyonne has a history of mental illness so proving anything won't be easy. We have a ward full psychiatric patients and a few family members for suspects.

Lyonne does well in a role that shows her as a victim of long term abuse. For her this episode is worth seeing.
