I expected more
hytare3 February 2012
I give 5 stars just because of Jasper the ferret, I love ferrets, and Jasper is so cute!! But I really didn't like it, it was too short, the acting was weird... the story itself I think was badly planned. A big disappointment, I was looking forward to this movie, the first with a ferret as a leading character, but it just wasn't what I expected. I love ferrets, I have 3. I see every movie who have a ferret it in, so just for the ferret, 5 stars!. But as a movie, it's very lacking. The acting wasn't very believable, but I'm not sure if it's because of the actors in it of because of the argument in the story itself. Maybe it is because it's such a short film, so you can't really go into too much detail. If that the reason I didn't like it, then it would be better if the argument was made for a short film such as this and not a movie that is suddenly too short. I love the director for doing this movie, as a ferret owner, thank you!.

I just love this film!!!!
stottmarie6 February 2012
I have been waiting for this film for a long time, at last a film about a ferret. I am a little albino ferret, and my mummy is helping to write this review. When I first saw the forerunner with all the cardboard animals, I knew that I had to help, so I saved up my pennies and became a funder. How pleased I am that I did this, as Alison has done us proud with this film. Although it is only about half an hour long, it is still filled with love and compassion, and shows just how much we little ferrets can help people in times of need. Now I am hoping that a full length film will be made, as I am waiting to see what happens to the family now they have just found each other again, and little Jasper is now included as a valued member. A good family film, and a must for ferret lovers!!!

Very Good Family Story
curichardson6 February 2012
I donated to this film, and watched it's progress as it was being made, and so, was very excited to see it reach my mailbox.

The story is timely inasmuch as there are many families who are experiencing the same, or very similar situations that Jake and Jessi face. While it was short in duration, I found myself recalling scenes and discussing it with others who viewed it, and therefore, do not feel it's length is relative. My first viewing was with my 9 and 7 year old granddaughters. They immediately identified with Jake and his father, as well as Falcor (I have 2 ferrets). They immediately began singing the song that Jake and Jessi sang, and are still singing it days after viewing. This film has all the ingredients to make a wonderful full length feature film, or, potentially, a television series. I found the actors and, of course, Falcor, to be believable and sincere in their portrayal of the characters.

In addition, I found the photography and direction to be very well done, as well as the locations where scenes were shot. Overall, I feel that my rating of 10 is justified and well-earned.

Top notch movie!
jessie1196 February 2012
Excellent story about the love and friendship that exists between a young boy & his ferret. A must see for all ferret folk! If you're an animal lover, watch this movie! Those who say animals can't love are so wrong. Jake & Jasper shows the loving bond between animal & human. It also shows that when you really need them, friends are all around you, in many shapes & sizes. It's wonderful to see ferrets portrayed in film. We need more great movies like this one. For fuzzy lovers everywhere, it shows how a ferret can steal your heart even when its breaking and help it mend. Family doesn't just mean human relatives. For true animal lovers, pets are family too!

Wonderful Short Film
aneiswenter7 February 2012
It is a wonderful short film. You could relate to each character's emotions as the story played out. Many families across the world could relate to the pain the family was feeling as well as the stress this pain put on all of them.

In addition, it showed you the true nature of a ferret as a pet (unconditional love and friendship). Showed you how much enjoyment a ferret can bring to your life even in the worse of times since they are nature's little clowns. I also enjoyed watching Jasper play throughout the movie.

The way the movie ended also allowed you to see the new path of the family, but also left room for a full length movie or TV series to take over.

Refreshing
tenferts6 February 2012
I was so pleased to see such a simple, and intrinsic human condition portrayed - simply refreshing! The actors were just right for each other and their roles. The basic concept of love and acceptance couldn't have been more succinctly portrayed, nor so touching in it's reach to all viewers. The interactions were brief, and profound. The scenery was well-chosen, and meshed well with the story. The "Behind the Scenes" portion of the DVD was an added bonus, I always enjoy those glimpses of character, weather they're "A"list stars or newcomers to film acting. all in all, a beautiful, and engaging piece of work by Allison Parker, who should definitely come under scrutiny in the future

And I can't get the tune out of my mind now either.

How One Ferret Can Make a Difference
pickledferret5 February 2012
This film depicts the real life relationships between family members and pets. The choreography and music are upbeat and keep things flowing. The actors were superb and played their parts with great emotion and excitement. I give the movie a ten star rating for depicting a ferret as a viable pet and important member of a family. Jasper bonds with Jake and the relationship flourishes. The pair soon become inseparable. And a love is fostered that really shows how well some pets, especially ferrets, make good therapy pets for young and old alike. The director owns a pet ferret and knows best how to portray their unique personalities. Please take the time to "learn" the truth about ferrets. They are such loving, whimsical, comical creatures with uninhibited exuberance!

Something for all the family :)
grannyweasel12 February 2012
As a ferret owner since 1994, I was looking forward to seeing a film showing ferrets in a positive light. I wasn't disappointed! It was a lovely, gentle film about Jake, the boy, and Jasper, his ferret. Like some of the other reviewers, I cried both sad and happy tears and am looking forward to showing the DVD to my grandkids.

The only thing I wish had been included was a summary showing both the pros AND cons about ferrets. Not all ferrets are as clever as Falcor and it worries me that non-ferret people might think they are all like that. They'll get one, thinking they can train it like a dog, and then when they find their ferret won't fetch stuff or roll over or do other tricks, they'll get fed up and hand the poor animal in to a shelter.

That's the only criticism I have. Other than that I give a big High Five to Alison and everyone else involved - thank you for making such a super movie showing what absolutely wonderful and loving pets ferrets make :D

Very entertaining
tillie-285-5390996 February 2012
I absolutely loved Jake & Jasper: A Ferret Tale!!! I thought Connor Stanhope and Falcor (the ferret) were totally believable as bonded pals, and Falcor/Jasper was amazingly CUTE and smart. I was left wanting MORE though. This movie had a great storyline which I am sure was a difficult one to condense into such a short film. However, I think Alison Parker and her editors and assistants took a difficult task of getting so much into such a short space and came up with a very entertaining result. Bravo to all of you involved in the making of this film. Being in the family category I think it will be very well received. I know my family thoroughly enjoyed it, young and old.

Thank you SOOOO much for bringing a well done short story about a ferret and "his boy" to the movie world. They are amazing and wonderful little pets, and do not get enough recognition.

Jake & Jasper
karen-284-5376465 February 2012
The movie was very enjoyable as a mum I shed genuine tears for the young Jake (Connor) I felt his pain through his character and whilst understanding his father's pain I really did want to give 'dad' a severe talking to. Big sis whilst singing to Jake brought the mum out in her, a very emotional movie from the human side. The star was always gonna be Jasper (Falcor)he is now the ambassador for ferret ownership worldwide. His antics had me laughing through my Jake induced tears. Need another movie showing step by step how Jasper (Falcor) was trained. What also made this movie special was involving pet and in particular ferrets to help finance the movie. For most of the contributors like me it is the first time we have done anything like this, what a pleasure to be able to say I helped make this wonderful movie a reality. I only have one negative to report and that is lack of sub titles. I rely on subtitles to help me follow a movie etc. Lack of subtitles means my husband has to tell me what is being said. Although visually I was so impressed with Jake (Connor) that I needed less help than normal :-)

Great Ferret Movie
tiggger28973 February 2012
I loved this movie! It was full of emotion and just down right heart warming in my opinion. The ferret in the movie is what won me over; this is a definitely a movie for ferret lovers and all others who would like to know a little something about the lovable ferret. The film also incorporates other animals too, such as a horse, a raccoon and even a skunk. All the animals in the movie just added to the greatness of the plot. Also, all the actors were spot on; they really came through with the emotions they were portraying which makes the movie all the better. This movie is good for any viewer also, including children, adults and even your ferret, there is no bad language or anything. Jake and Jasper is definitely a family movie and I believe this movie is a huge success! All in all, it was a very good movie and I would not hesitate to recommend this movie to anyone!

Jake & Jasper : A Ferret Success!
mychevys9 February 2012
I found this movie to be extremely heartfelt and the beginning of a possibly full length movie. The struggles to deal with the death of the mother, the attempted breaking of bonds between father and daughter, and the creation of bonds between boy and ferret are heartwarming and leave the viewer with a sense of goodness and fulfilment. Considering the fact that the movie was a short film, a few small issues must be over looked regarding the deflation of certain scenes, but this is totally understandable. I am a ferret owner (Ferrent), and fell in love with the concept of the creation of this film as a Ferrent. But, I found that though Jasper (Falcor) plays an extremely important role in the film, as with Jake (Connor). It is not really the characters themselves that project the story, it is the story itself that projects itself. Yes, I realize that that may sound confusing, but it is as Marshall McLuhan states "The medium is the message". 4 paws way up everyone!

Definite must see film!!
lild1866 February 2012
Absolutely brilliant, from start to finish there's never once a dull moment it's always full of emotion from happy to sad! had me tearing up A LOT at certain points (won't spoil) Jake (Connor Stanhope) done an absolutely fantastic job portraying the role of Jake, for someone so young his acting is fantastic, it's in the eyes! as did the rest of the cast, especially Nina Hagerty as Jakes sister. I've already watched it 5 times and might just need to watch it again - Jasper (Falcor) is far too cute and adorable, very well trained and does a great job of following the commands required for some scenes! Cannot fault the plot and storyline, so easy to follow and understand full of excitement and twists!

Great Movie
monstaferret9 February 2012
I loved this movie and have watched it 3 times already! Ferrets make great companion pets and it makes a nice change to see them portrayed in a positive light. All too often they are seen as biter, smelly animals when in fact they are intelligent loving little creatures. The acting was good throughout and the subject matter of the death of a parent was handled well with much compassion. It also shows well how difficult parents can find life when their wife/husband passes away. I would like to thank all of the actors and crew for helping make this such a special movie. A special thanks to Alison Parker and all of the wonderful people who donated to make this movie possible.

Highly recommended short film
kathybalman7 February 2012
This is a wonderful family movie and teaches valuable lessons in compassion, friendship, fighting, family and ferrets. The film is not rated but I can tell you there is no foul language, nudity or violence. It is very safe for all ages! The film is 25 min 14 sec long great for short attention spans. There are also a few special features like: Behind the Scenes: The Making of Jake and Jasper, Funder's Pets Photo Montage (the kids loved this), Official Trailer and Fundraising Promo Video. And if you do some searching and hit the #1 on your remote you can even some hidden goodies like a blooper reel. I love the tag line for the movie which is, "sometimes all you need is a little friendship." And I loved the cinematic techniques used throughout the film. One of my favorite parts was the meadow scene with the white horse (Gwyn mentions it in here review). I also thought the acting was very well done and Jesse (played by Nina Hagerty) did such a great job with the scene where she gives Jasper to Jake (totally brought tears to my eyes). Both kids loved how Jasper (played by Falcor) looks just like our Jester. But they were disappointed when they tried to get Jester to do tricks like Falcor did in the movie, like fetching, rolling over and begging.

Like Gwyn mentioned, Jake played by Connor Stanhope is homeschooled. I asked Connor on his Facebook page what he liked most about homeschooling and what his favorite subject was. He replied "Hi :) I think one of the things I like best is being able to work at my own pace. I also like being able to choose some of my own things to learn. My favorite subject is science." Being a homeschool family we love to support movies that feature homeschooled actors.

We highly recommend this movie to ferret, nature, animal, family, homeschool, short film movie lovers everywhere.

I love this movie !
morvette6 February 2012
I LOVE this ! What a tale, what a story, what Drama !! What acting!! What a Great Director ! The Producers !! The ferret community really came together to get behind Alison Parker's vision of this "Ferret Tale". Nina Haggerty is a shining star and Connor Stanhope is amazing in the role of Jake. Falcor & Frisco the ferrets that played Jasper are so sweet and lovable you just want to reach into the screen and give them a hug <3 The video is also filled with extras such as a section where the funders of the film could feature their pets :-) What a great idea ! Also there are features that let the viewer watch the making of the film .. I hope a film company is smart enough to pick this up for a feature family film. Alison Parker did a great job from start to finish and I say " BRAVO" ..." ENCORE " ! :-)

and the Best animal actor award goes to FALCOR
fallonferts8 February 2012
I have been watching this film's progress for a long time, at last a good film about a ferret. Hope someday to see a full length version-- love love love this movie.

A must see for all ferret folk and non-ferret people as well-- in fact! If you're an animal lover, watch this movie! Those who say animals can't love are so wrong. Jake & Jasper shows the loving bond between animal & human. My first ferret was brought into our home to help with my daughters depression-- he saved her life and sanity and made a confirmed FERRET lover.

I loved Jake & Jasper: A Ferret Tale!!! I thought Connor Stanhope and Falcor (the ferret) I was left wanting MORE though.

a heartwarming tale of a boy and his ferret
mzsassypantsu7 February 2012
I LOVE this film! I was amazed at how much emotion can be brought to a short film.I cried sad tears and happy tears!

This is for animals lovers of all kinds especially ferret lovers! It's great to finally see a positive/real portrayal of a ferret in a movie(great job Falcor!) It's obvious that an animal lover made this film and she did a great job. This is a movie the whole family can watch and enjoy together (and the fuzzies!) I intend to watch this over and over again! I would love to see a full length version of this get made.

2 thumbs up from this ferret lover! and 20 paws up from the fuzzies!

Jake and Jasper
bambi-faulkner7 February 2012
The movie was great. Definitely would love to see it become full length or a series on AP (animal planet). The quality was great and loved the behind the scenes. Its about time someone put our little bundles of fur babies in the spotlight. Those critters are so fun. Looking forward to more adventures. Who knew that an animal so small could do so much physically, emotionally and mentally. I currently own 2 of my own ferrets now and I do not know what I would do with out them. Even when I'm blue, I can let them out and start laughing again. They are very entertaining. I would like to see on the big screen. It was well worth the donations. Good work, keep it up and kudos to the rest of the cast.

A lonely boy gets a ferret and goes on an adventure.
candeblock3 February 2012
I really loved watching this movie!! I'm an animal lover, mostly ferrets, and this movie exceeded my expectations very nicely. The actors are all top notch, played their roles in a professional manner. Of course Jasper Ferret is a very smart ferret, so I feel his movie career is well on its way!!! The boy is named Jake and played his role as a loner very well. His Mom passed away and he misses her every day. His Dad is trying to raise Jake and his sister, Jesse, but not doing a very good job at it. He has his own hurts from losing his wife and doesn't connect with his son and daughter. Jakes' school classmates aren't helping matters by picking on him. The film ended on a positive note for me, and I'm so glad I got to watch it!!

Fantastic Film, highly recommended!!!!!
marie-stott4 February 2012
I have owned ferrets for almost two years, and have been waiting for this film to be made, edited and completed, and today I received my video. I think that Alison has done us proud with this film which portrays Jasper as the perfect pet, which ferrets can be for the right owners. They are so loyal and trusting of their humans, and as this film shows can be taught to do tricks. They make a fantastic companion, and love to have companions of their own kind too. So at least two ferrets should be kept if possible. The story line was very moving, and the actors portrayed the characters with such feeling. I would highly recommend this film, and hope that similar ones will be made in the future :-)

A must-see for the whole family.
PTCruiserCdn3 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Jake & Jasper: A ferret Tale is a family movie, in every sense of the word, although I would have liked it to be longer. Love, heartache, adventure, compassion, and redemption. Connor Stanhope truly had a grasp on his character, Jake, a young boy who lost his mother and is unable to communicate with his grieving father. His situation tugged at my heart strings. Enter Jasper, the ferret, and his life takes a turn in a totally different direction. Something for every member of the family.

I loved it and hope to see more from this director and the main cast of characters, in the form of a 2 hour movie or episodic series.

Thank you Alison Parker, Falcor, and Connor.

I was super excited about this movie ever since hearing about production. Lo and behold, I received it and watched it... Being totally honest, this movie will appeal to animal lovers and ferret lovers alike. It is a simple movie, with a simple storyline, but such depth is brought in by the actor portraying Jake, and let's not even start with how cute Falkor is! *Falkor, I'm your fan!* The connection between human and ferret is magical from the beginning to the end. All of the other animal cameos were excellent as well. I have no idea who would not like this film!

It is a heart warming story, really beautiful quality of picture *totally surprised by this, really good for an independent film*, the soundtrack is really catchy. It was great, MUST WATCH!

Great short family film!
amanda-evans7819 February 2012
This is such a cute short! Falcor the ferret is adorable, and for ferret lovers, it's great to have a movie that is centred around a ferret. Alison Parker did a great job with this movie. I only wish this wasn't a "short" and was a full-length! It's a very heartwarming story, and I'm happy it shows ferrets in their true light. Some people have said it isn't realistic, well, I think it's because it's a short, not a feature-length, so it doesn't have time to dive deep into the history or have multi-dimensional characters. Like the description says, it's about a boy trying to deal with the death of his mother, and Ms. Parker manages to get the emotion of the loss of a loved one across, while keeping the story light enough for a short film. If you like ferrets, or you have kids who like animals, get this movie, you and the kids will enjoy watching Falcor's (Jasper) tricks and silly antics that ferrets are known for.

Great Family Movie! Highly recommended.
kevin-291-38669813 February 2012
This is a really great movie with a number of very positive messages. There is a core theme of family values where through trials, the importance of supporting each other comes through. There is a real-life challenge to the family, which they have to work their way through. This is where Jasper comes through, pulling them all together. Having Jasper the ferret as a focus both works for the film as well as exposes the ferret as a wonderful companion and comfort for Jake.

The entire cast works together as a great ensemble. Production values are quite good as well. All in all a wonderful experience. My only disappointment was that it is too short. It really needs to be extended into a full feature film so the rest of the story can be told!
