According to executive producer David S. Goyer the title sequence was planned to run thirty seconds and Bear McCreary created the title theme accordingly. However, after Goyer heard the music, he asked McCreary create a longer version of the theme. The producers then decided to use this longer theme and to change the title sequence to accommodate the longer theme music (this required some already locked episodes to be reedited to fit the time frame).
The show features a glaring example on a building. It is even the trope. The well-known typeface, Gotham (used in countless modern ventures) is seen on a Renaissance building. Gotham was invented in 2002. That's a difference of nearly 500 years.
