Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer Set To Pen Universal’s ‘Van Helsing’ Reboot

12 November 2015 7:00 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Variety is reporting that Universal Pictures have hired screenwriters Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer to co-write the new "Van Helsing" reboot for the studio. Spaihts' film credits includes Ridley Scott's "Prometheus", Scott Derrickson's "Doctor Strange", and Alex Kurtzman's "The Mummy" reboot. Heisserer is known for "The Nightmare on Elm Street" remake, "Final Destination 5", and Paul Walker's "Hours."

Plot details are unknown at this time. Universal is currently rebooting their classic monster franchises such as 2014's "Dracula Untold" and "The Mummy" reboot, which will be set in present day and directed by "Star Trek" and "Transformers" screenwriter Alex Kurtzman. There’s no word yet on when “Van Helsing” will take place. Universal first released a "Van Helsing" film in 2004 which starred actors Hugh Jackman ("Pan") and Kate Beckinsale ("Underworld"), but the film managed to flop at the box office.

Universal’s Van Helsing Reboot Enlists A Pair Of Writers

11 November 2015 6:00 PM, PST | | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Variety is reporting Universal has signed Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) and Eric Heisserer (Hours) to co-write their upcoming Van Helsing reboot, which will build upon their still-developing classic monsters universe. Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are on-board as producers. Plot details remain scarce as do details on the shared monster movie universe, but what we do know is that a reboot of The Mummy will launch the universe when it hits theaters in 2017. The Van Helsing character was last seen on screen in the hit 2004 film of the same name, which starred Hugh Jackman (Wolverine 3) as the titular vampire hunter and Kate Beckinsale (Underworld 5) as his ill-fated lady love. At one point, Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation) was attached to the reboot, but according to Variety reporter Justin Kroll, that is unsurprisingly no longer the case. What do you guys think of this latest development? Excited for a shared monster universe? »

Paul Walker: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

3 April 2015 3:02 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Some actors hit the ground running, starting as they mean to go on by giving career-making debut performances in commercial and critical hit films. Some even win awards for their first either feature film roles, like Lupita Nyong’o, who scooped tonnes of awards for her part in 12 Years A Slave. And then there are the actors who started their career in the likes of 1986 Troma horror comedy Monster In The Closet.

Following guest appearances on TV soap operas The Young And The Restless and Touched By An Angel, that’s where Paul Walker began his career. But it’s not about where you start off, it’s where you end up – and a good couple of decades after his role as “Professor” Bennett in a movie that’s one long mildly homophobic gag, he had built up a truly impressive filmography.

Who knows where his career might have taken him in later life, »
