Trivia
Carlos Brooks and Helen Childress (husband and wife) met at USC's School of Cinema Television (i.e., now the School of Cinematic Arts), during the short-lived "Filmic Writing" program which was the first and only exhaustive BFA program to combine screenwriting/directing/producing into a single major. From this rare program came the likes of John Singleton, Steven Chbosky, Sammy Buck, Troy Allen Dyer, Teresa Zimmerman, and many others who are now making, financing and writing for the film and television industry. Helen also worked closely with Ben Stiller on "Reality Bites" (Ben's directorial debut), which set up the stylistic of fast-paced and highly intricate dialogue by younger, hip screenwriters starting their careers in 1994 (i.e., Kevin Williamson, Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith), and who have seen such stylistics upheld more recently by female voices like Diablo Cody.
