The movie was shot over 2 1/2 years, as it was edited, and then re-written. Andrew Edison and Luke Loftin ended up dropping out of college to focus on making the movie. After the numerous shoots, the filmmakers ended up with 200 hours of HD footage, totaling 7 TB (~7000 GB).
The rap song rapped along to by Luke in a car scene was actually written and performed by Loftin, but was reportedly very racist and vulgar, including a lyric about Whitney Houston (who had died around the time the movie was released) buying marijuana. The filmmakers stated that the song would never be released due to its content.
