Cam makes a bet
17 December 2011 | by (New York) – See all my reviews

Phil is seen arriving in his truck with a load of wood. Claire is puzzled as to what does he intend to do with so much lumber. Phil wants to build a tree house for his son. This way, the boy can enjoy some of the same things his father had when he was growing up. Haley, barges on the scene. In one of her college applications, she is asked to expand on some of the obstacles she conquered so far in life, but she cannot think of any.

Cam and Mitch are having drinks with a friend in a regular cocktail lounge. There is a beautiful woman sitting alone at the bar. Cam offers a thought to Mitch and the friend: had he not been gay, he could pick up any woman he wanted. He goes as far as making a bet: if he gets the woman's telephone number, Mitch will do the laundry for a month. Cam approaches the lady pretending to know her and having forgotten where, plus her name. She plays dumb, until she reveals she was sure about his intention. The woman, Katie, gives Cam her number.

Jay and Gloria are entertaining another couple. Shorty and Darlene talk about how much they love to dance salsa music. Gloria, who loves it as well, regrets she cannot enjoy going out dancing because Jay hates it. He is a man who does not know how to move. Later on, Manny decides to help Jay with a few steps to loosen him up. Jay is definitely not a good dancer, nor he will ever be.

Basically these are the three situations running through the episode which was directed with care by Jason Winer. The success of this series is due to the inspired writing that makes the sitcom so appealing to its audience. This chapter was written by its creator, Steven Levitan. Tonight's program boasted three excellent guest appearances by well known actors: Chazz Palminteri, Jennifer Tilly and a great turn by Leslie Mann who shows up as Katie. There is also a good performance by Eric Stonestreet pretending Cam is straight. The regulars always do their best to entertain.
