"Goin' down to South Park, gonna leave my woes behind."
3 March 2013 | by (Edinburgh.) – See all my reviews

If you're a fan of South Park, or just a fan of consistent anti-establishment anarchy, then you need to see this enjoyable, brief documentary looking at how South Park is made and also how Trey Parker and Matt Stone have kept their sense of humour and attitude for over fifteen years now.

Focusing on the first episode of the fifteenth season, entitled "HUMANCENTiPAD", this shows an episode being made in six days. Yes, six days. From nothing to an idea to development of that idea to scriptwriting to vocal work - mainly from Parker and Stone - to full animation and getting it handed over to Comedy Central.

Why do the guys work like this and what if it all goes horribly wrong? That's looked at and discussed as we see the fun and the stress that goes into the whole process.

It's not just all about Parker and Stone. The guys know that they have a great team helping them create the show week in and week out and everyone is shown working hard to achieve the results that fans love so much.

Having said that, there is plenty here to enjoy if you're a fan of the central pair. A look at their humble beginnings, a look at just what a driving force Trey Parker is (Stone acknowledges that Parker is the real leader of the South Park world) and a memorable reminder of the time that the pair turned up at the Oscars, Matt Stone in a dress and both of them on LSD.

Like the best documentaries, this gives viewers an insight that leads to added respect for the subject being looked at. You might not like the humour of South Park, but you have to admire Parker and Stone for sticking to their guns over the years and taking potshots and everyone and everything, without a care for politics or potential Hollywood friendships.

I've not actually seen that many episodes of South Park, but I'm going to change that ASAP.
