On the rap sheet for Nick's conviction for shoplifting, it gives the arrest date as August 21, 1989. However, his profile gives his birth date as August 21, 1989, which would work well with him being 22 at the time the episode is set. The rap sheet has this date in the wrong place.
(at around 13 mins) Sheldon says that he was able to determine the gun used based on the bullet fragments (a Baikal IJ 70). He then goes on to say that there was no hit on the serial number of the gun. They don't have the gun, therefore wouldn't have a serial number. If they did have the gun, they wouldn't need the bullet fragments to determine the gun used.
