I really wanted to like this
jrmsfe19 August 2013
I am a native of Northern New Mexico and I am familiar with the writers, actors and extras in this movie, so I really wanted to like it. My rating of this movie is a 3, because I really didn't get drawn in like I would have liked to. The story line was confusing as to what exactly happened to make Whitey do the things he was doing and I was never really convinced what role his family played (drug dealing was the assumption). The writers stayed as true to their roots of Northern NM as they could, but I believe this was to their detriment because the targeted demographic seemed to be too focused on the filming location. The technical production of this movie was good and the main actors were good as well, but I was just let down by the overall flow in how the story was written. I think Diego is onto something and is a talented artist, and I just hope he doesn't give up on his new craft of movie making.

Worth watching, but was hoping for more from the writers.

U r in for a dumb ride
Raul4ever2 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Alright, so my friend brought this movie over and I thought, a sister fighting to save her younger sister against the heroin mafia. Hell, sounds good. But I never knew that "fighting" against the mafia meant going around to different people and asking them if they have seen her sister. So in short, there is this gangster named Whitey who goes around killing people who apparently took some money that belonged to him and his mother.

He kills a guy who was with the sister of the heroine, the sister goes into hiding, blah blah blah, the guy goes around asking people if anyone has seen her. The heroine goes around asking people if anyone has seen her sister. That's it.

Apparently the underworld consists of one guy and his mom according to this movie. Spanish is spoken liberally throughout the movie so if you have no idea about the language or have no subtitles, don't bother. Why this movie is categorized under action is beyond me..

If you find this movie relevant, you might have a problem...
gpknopp10 August 2013
I am reviewing this awful piece of trash while I watch it.

I am giving it a chance because the review demographics are curious - why do some women like this movie? A possible answer - that they find it reflective of their own lives - is terrifying. Please, if you live places like this, just leave. The symbolism might appeal to particular people, but am left wondering what a Pueblo person might think about this...personally I found the pseudo-spiritualism in here trite and cliché, speaking of which, Kilcher seems to have no problem co-opting members of other native cultures. And her fashion is simply ridiculous.

Don't waste your time with this.

n.b. I give myself credit for recognizing Espanola instantly, though I never found it as hostile as it is represented here.

Readers, here's your spoiler warning. "This movie is terrible"
hennessystraightup20137 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I apologize in advance to those of you like myself who wasted time watching this god awful movie. Most, if not all of the movie, made no sense. Whoever wrote this script should seek another profession. This movie was well advertised, but man was I disappointed. I really felt that this movie would actually be worth watching. Well, there's a couple of bucks from the red box which I will never get back.

Where do I begin, the two women that played sisters couldn't act at all. They probably could of casted some better looking women who could of acted as bad as these two did, just saying. The bad guy in this movie which I thought was the middle eastern dude from 40 year virgin acted terrible. This movie had a sex scene in it, which I couldn't understand why. This movie had actors trying to either play native Americans or Mexicans, I had no idea I was so confused. Also, the individuals in this movie had jobs. They were either tattoo artists, sculptures or painters which brought nothing to this movie. This movie had decent visual effects, but was really over shadowed by how the movie was as a whole to include the poor acting and total confusion throughout this film. This movie is not even a B-rate movie, it's just terrible.

The only bright spot which was small, was the music. Probably would look into snatching up the music CD, but that's it. Do not watch this movie, not even if your paying money into the red box, that's money you could use buying food from McDonald's dollar menu.

Not blood in blood out or American me
botsai4 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It looks like an attempt to create something like "american me". If so, it didn't work out at all.

Although the image itself is not too bad, the plot of this movie is really poor. If it was for me I would not go through all the hassle to produce the movie at all and wait for a better story to start with. Further the acting of namely the macho characters in the movie is overdone and not credible and therefore quite annoying to watch.

The movie might be worth watching for a select group of people like the crew itself, it's family and friends, but further I cannot imagine that someone gets a good kick out of it.

I rate every movie I watch and rarely rate something 3 stars, I gave this movie 3 stars.

What a waste

I really wanted to like this movie but it really does suck. The ending is so weird and makes no sense. The whole story is average at best. Wow I wish I could take back that hour and half I lost

Sister love
mvlgarcia8 August 2013
This movie ROCKED!! I enjoyed everything about it....the music, the nice rides, the bad guys that you love to hate, the breathtaking landscapes and cool artwork in the background, but most of all I loved the story! I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what happened next. I thought it was extremely well written and the actors did an amazing job portraying their roles. The characters were well developed and believable. Great to see strong female Hispanic and Native Americans figures in a film! The villains were well played too! I loved the dialogue and the scenery. The more I watch it, the more I like it. We need more movies like this. Blaze You Out is a MUST see and a definite favorite of mine already. I would absolutely recommend this flick.

Good film from a small town
sirisadhanasingh29 August 2013
The film is interesting in that it weaves many elements together. It is fictional, but it is entertaining. It is entertaining with larger than life elements. Understanding that it was one of the first productions of this scale by these film-makers, I enjoyed the knowledge that it was a small project. Having lived in Northern New Mexico, I enjoyed the excellent camera-work and the way in which the scenery was well-portrayed. The characters were different and the story was unique. If you want to see a movie that is out of the ordinary, that speaks a bit about where it's from, and that might show you a place you haven't seen before (whether fictionally portrayed or whether in scenery) - then you'll enjoy this film.

Big Sister looks after Younger Sister...😘
ctester2 August 2013
The strong bond between these siblings is Epic. The elder sister will do all what it takes by any means necessary to sustain her only younger sister's livelihood after learning what she (young Sis) has got in herself into. Living in a Barrio (Latino-Hoodom) for some is not always simple!

This movie is a Powerful, Profound and Highly Plausible way of life in any Chicano community here in North America that is portrayed here.

With well known Latin celebrities alike and others, actors/actresses all shown superior performance. This is an all Hispanic, Latino/Latina and Native American depicted story.

Without a doubt awards will be earn and deserved for this dramatic movie.

Try not to exaggerate.
pwix8 August 2013
The reason I watched this movie is that it has an original story. I give it points for that and a few more for some good performances, especially including Elizabeth Peña, Raoul Trujillo, Veronica Diaz, and Melissa Cordero. It just wasn't well written. The story has people showing up with no clear idea who they are or what their connection to the plot is. During important scenes I wondered things like, Who is that? What place is that and why did they go there? I supposed the snake bit Whitey because of a brujeria because Whitey was not bothering it and wasn't too close to it, but that is entirely my assumption. If the brujo didn't cause it, then that was lame and unrealistic. I wondered how Alicia got the keys to Whitey's car. Decent writing could at least have plugged a few holes. Good writing could have made this movie really special. Overall I would say nice try. Keep working on your craft because you got my attention.

Handsome first feature beautifully portrayed
Caliann19 August 2013
BLAZE YOU OUT is a handsome first feature by directors Mateo Frazier and Diego Joaquin Lopez and their talented cast and crew. Set in northern New Mexico, the film is a masterful tapestry of stunning landscapes and human drama. Life would be normal in this Latino and Native American town except for the evil - a cunning drug-dealing matriarch (Elizabeth Pena) and her seductively twisted son, Whitey (brilliantly portrayed by Mark Adair-Rios). But they go too far when Whitey doggedly pursues Alicia (Melissa Cordero), a witness to one of his murders. With ferocious determination, Alicia's sister, Lupe (portrayed by the talented Veronica Diaz-Carranza) recruits her friends who invoke their own courage and mystical forces to save themselves and their cultures from extinction. Superb cinematography and editing, visually rich lighting -- huge production value. Well done.
