'Breaking Bad' finale: Jonathan Banks thinks Walter White has to die

5 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Mike Ehrmantraut won't be returning to "Breaking Bad" in its final eight episodes, but actor Jonathan Banks at least got to represent his deceased character one more time at the 2013 Saturn Awards. There he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series (coincidentally facing off against former "Breaking Bad" ally Giancarlo Esposito, who was nominated for his work in "Revolution"), and ended up taking the award home.

Zap2it caught up with Banks prior to his win on the Saturn Award carpet, and asked what the experience of working on "Breaking Bad" was like for him. "I just came by. I dropped in. I had no idea Mike would become 'Mike,'" he says. "[The experience was] one of the best of my life. I loved going to work. I really did."

Since Mike met an untimely end, Banks doesn't know what's going to happen in the final half of Season »

Serbian films shine at Karlovy Vary Works In Progress

10 hours ago | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

Central and Eastern European filmmakers presented 19 projects at various stages of production at Karlovy Vary’s annual Works in Progress initiative.

The popular industry programme at Kviff is in its ninth year, and past films shown as Works In Progress include I Am, Lunacy, Katyn, Tricks, Alois Nebel and My Dog Killer, among many others.

This year’s selection included a standout pitch for The Disobedient [pictured], a Serbian coming-of-age road movie about two 24-year-olds from Tilva Ros producers Mina Djukic (who will direct) and Nikola Lezaic. The film is now in post for autumn delivery after wrapping its shoot in September 2012.

Another promising Serbian title, of a very different flavour, was the crowdpleasing dark comedy Monument to Michael Jackson (working title). The film will be ready to launch this autumn and the footage shown got the day’s only laughs out of the industry-heavy crowd. The film is a co-production with Macedonia and Germany.

Rubicon’s Jessica Collins Joins Revolution Season 2

29 June 2013 11:05 PM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

Let’s solve some puzzles! Former “Rubicon” castmember Jessica Collins has joined the cast of NBC’s “Revolution’s” upcoming Season 2. She’s already nabbed an early 4-episode arc on the show, and will play Cynthia, described as “a beautiful young woman of deep faith, whose winning humor and blazing intelligence capture the heart of one of Revolution’s leading characters.” Hmm, one of the “leading characters”? It doesn’t say The leading character, so I’m guessing not Miles, even though our battling hero could certainly use a new love interest now that Nora went and bit the dust at the end of Season 1. Then again, there’s that thing between him and Elizabeth Mitchell’s Rachel, so… Who is left? Well, there’s Aaron. He’s single and ready to mingle. Collins was recently in the aforementioned “Rubicon”, along with “Person of Interest” and the movie “Zero Dark Thirty »

'Revolution' Season 2: Jessica Collins to recur as mystery love interest

28 June 2013 4:06 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Revolution" is bringing the romance in Season 2, signing Jessica Collins for a four-episode arc as mysterious new addition Cynthia.

"Revolution" showrunner Eric Kripke has this to say about the character: "Cynthia is a beautiful young woman of deep faith, whose winning humor and blazing intelligence capture the heart of one of 'Revolution's' leading characters."

While that could mean anyone from Miles (presumably still grieving Nora and wrestling with his feelings for Rachel) to Neville (still married) to Monroe (single, but psycho), we're wondering if maybe it's Aaron's turn for a little romantic distraction? Unless he's destined to reunite with his wife?

Collins was a regular on AMC's "Rubicon" and ABC's "The Nine," which both lasted just a single season. She also had a supporting role in the Oscar nominated hit drama "Zero Dark Thirty."

"Revolution" Season 2 premieres Sept. 25 in its new timeslot, Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. Et. »

Saturn Awards: ‘Avengers,’ ‘Breaking Bad’ lead sci-fi-fantasy-horror pack

26 June 2013 10:31 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

“Marvel’s The Avengers” and “Breaking Bad” collected the most statuettes as the Academy Of Science Fiction, Horror & Fantasy Films handed out its Saturn Awards Wednesday night in Burbank.

“Avengers” took home honors for top science fiction film; Joss Whedon as director; Clark Gregg as supporting actor; and for special effects — that kudo going to the team of Janek Sirrs, Jeff White, Guy Williams and Dan Sudick.

Other pictures getting “best” honors were “Life of Pi” as fantasy film; “The Cabin in the Woods” as horror/thriller; and “Skyfall” as action/adventure. Matthew McConaughey was honored as actor for “Killer Joe.”

The Saturns are an unapologetic geekfest where genre shows and stars take center stage. This year that produced an unusual echo of the Oscars. Under the Dome Hits Summer Highs and Asks Big Questions

26 June 2013 10:39 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Not only was Under the Dome generally well received – I, personally, found it to be surprisingly engaging with just the right amount of unsettling – but CBS’ summer series has hit some ratings highs for the network. I guess viewers really wanted to know what was under that dome!

Getting right down into the uber-scientific numbers of television ratings can be a little boring, but try to stay with me (I promise there’s more interesting coverage after we get through this slop). According to THR, Under the Dome’s pilot drew in a total of 13.1 million viewers, with a 3.2 rating in adults 18-49, tying it with The Following for the second-highest-rated drama premiere of the 2012-13 television season (Revolution is still the highest, unfortunately). While it might not have reached number one in that regard, it did manage to steal the spot of most-watched summer debut on CBS, the highest »

Musical Scenes Written or Improvised by the Actor

25 June 2013 2:00 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

As I compiled this list of musical scenes written or improvised by the actors who performed them, I quickly realized that I could never cover everything. The amount of music written by the actors in Christopher Guest films alone would more than double the size of this article. So I tried to limit myself to scenes and movies that I'd be able to give some fun insight on.

I literally got goosebumps rewatching some of these musical scenes. I hope you're inspired to give some of these movies a whirl in the DVD/Blu-ray player afterwards with a new sense of appreciation for the work that went into these musical moments.

For the very first time this year, The Hollywood News will be heading across the Atlantic, from London to San Diego, to attend the 2013 San Diego Comic Con. The trip is something we’ve been planning since as early as December of last year, and both myself and Craig Hunter will be delving [balls] deep into Hall H (which is apparently where all of the magic happens), to bring you daily reports from the show and beyond.

In just a few weeks time, Craig and I will be packing our bags, getting down to Thomas Cook to exchange some British pound notes for some Us ‘green’ (that’s what the local currency is referred to as on the street), heading to Heathrow airport and, after tucking into a ‘full English’ and a final pint of London pride at the Wetherspoons in the departure lounge, jetting to the climbs of San Diego »

Tracy Spiridakos Heading Back to Civilization for Showtime’s Episodes

22 June 2013 9:09 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Revolution star Tracy Spiridakos is one gorgeous lady, but when we’re watching her fight against the Republic of Monroe, we only ever see her covered in dirt and blood. That, in its own way, is very sexy and is more than enough to keep me coming back to the NBC drama when I might have otherwise checked out by now. But I’m interested in seeing Spiridakos in a more run-of-the-mill setting, something with less violence and more of an emphasis on her doing something other than looking emotionally troubled. Perhaps a vacation from Revolution is just what she needs. But where to go? Why not Showtime’s Episodes?

I think it could a lot of fun for Spiridakos to lighten up a bit with a guest-starring gig on something like Episodes. She’s always so super serious on Revolution, it’s hard to take her character seriously. I »
