Hooked! Not for the weak-willed
Sandovolume30 May 2017
I was drawn in after seeing an ad for this show which I believed was because of my love for all things Fallout (the video game series). Day Zero reminds me of LOST and X-Files as far as TV goes but for games, more so like The Last of Us, Hulk or Fallout. I was hooked from the beginning to end, the realism and attention to detail was put to good use. For example, women in this environment still want to look pretty and I don't blame them (that's a natural human response to escaping the realities of a post-apocalyptic situation). Many "what if" scenarios here, some may think "controversial" (especially in Season 2). Fantastic little indie :)

Amateur Hour
Diane-73676629 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The acting is amateurish along the lines of a fan-flick at **best**. The science is non-existent and it took all of nine minutes into the series to make a "girls don't understand science" comment. At 10 minutes in we got some slut shaming - nice.

Also notice the distribution of votes on the IMDb vote page particularly the uneven distribution of "10" votes- the voting has been shilled.

Admittedly the post production cuts are rather well done but it can't make up for the juvenile acting, direction, script and slow moving plot.

Bad acting no budget and perfectly plucked eyebrows and makeup.

Warning: Spoilers
Bad acting no budget and perfectly plucked eyebrows and makeup. These are the things that turned me off to what I initially thought would be a half way decent post apocalyptic genre TV show. I mean come on, how many people are going to be bothering to keep up their makeup after World War IV? It just looks stupid. I could go on and on with all the critic type crap but those people sound like complete douche bags. It's crap so if you like crap then watch it.

Poor props and acting
lblake-476018 September 2017
After watching the first 10 min of episode 1 stopped. The rifle used to shoot the deer was a Red Rider BB Gun...how original! The acting was awful to say the least! The actors reminded me of watching a high school drama class prepping for a show for the kids. The story line had the potential of being a great show but the amateur props and acting killed it.

Impressive effort
May_You_Die29 May 2017
**Let me state beforehand that I've now watched both seasons of this series before writing this review.**

Not knowing anything about this show, I started off watching the Season 2 premiere just out of curiosity; I had done a search on Amazon Prime video and this show came up. I liked the way it looked, and the writing seemed good, so I continued watching and wound up finishing the episode. The problem I had was that there is a season 1. I have this thing about not watching a show unless I watch it from the beginning, so I just decided to bite the bullet and purchase it.

First off, I can say that the pilot episode is the most raw filmmaking- wise in the entirety of the show. This first season maintains much of this aesthetic, but it does improve. It seems that the filmmaker or writer (or both) structured this season to be a narrow character study, where the story's universe is merely a setting rather than the subject.

Moving on to Season 2, the story picks up somewhat from where the first ended, but you immediately get the feeling that the scope of this season is much broader. The quality of both cinematography and writing are considerably improved, and this lends evidence to that fact. I found it enjoyable watching this season more because stylistically it veers into territory that only Hollywood would even attempt. Quite impressive for what seems to be a low-budget project, as far as I can tell.

If anyone can point me to another low/no budget production of similar quality, post it. Because I don't know of any other yet.

fodder for MST3000
darkeyes-9602729 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It is not worth watching. Poor quality acting, directing, writing, sets, sound, you name it, badly done. Said to have won lots of awards? Not sure why. I can see if it was made in the 70's, but with the technology available it is so very substandard. I know it was shot a few yrs. ago, but not 30 yrs. ago.

The kind of thing where there are lots of pauses in dialogue as though the actors are waiting for their cue or something. No even flow of dialogue.

Dialogue like, "I am not gonna discuss relationships with a gay person". Really? Prozac is called both a relaxant and an anti psychotic. That is from the character that is supposed to be a world renowned doctor.

They cure a zombie like character they capture feeding in a horde. A couple of days after injections, they show her full makeup, false eyelashes, boots that look like they have never been walked in, clothes from a store window. That shot apparently was a real miracle. Just sloppy. Sloppy.

I guess going on is needless. Just know it is very poorly done.

Spoiler warning: The Plot Thickens!
DellaOrare30 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm still wondering which character is good and which is bad! Nearly done with both seasons, the story arcs are addictive. The 2nd season has more arcs so it tends to be more serialized as opposed to stand- alone, which keeps me coming back for more :) I saw this off of Tuff TV initially but Amazon Prime for season 2 works better for me 'cause I like my shows in HD widescreen.

I like the NCIS-type of cuts while the 1st season is more intimate and kind of George Romero, if you will. You have to suspend your disbelief with some areas just like any TV show which you could find flaws with, but this is nearly flawless! So I don't know if this is a spoiler exactly, but what are Hybrids?? Well ****SPOILER**** below:

This is not a zombie show! I saw the documentary on YouTube too, that kinda gave it away, but I won't say more. ;)

Not just another post-apocalyptic(Zombie) show
jlong-8600212 June 2017
Not just another post-apocalyptic(Zombie) show. The characters are real and the mystery of what happened is absolutely intriguing. This is an entertaining multi genre show. A fun blend of action, science fiction, drama, and some comedy as well. It goes to show that a great show doesn't need a huge budget to be successful.

Don't listen to the trolls and bullies!
telurode29 May 2017
Ever heard of the adage "if you have nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all"? Well that goes for so many negative, jealous, mean-spirited people in this world. You will find that in characters on this show who make you want to beat them up, but you shouldn't resort to their level when they persecute you. That's the gist of what I'm getting from this show, it dedicates itself to exposing the bullies out there. Great stuff!

Progressively good story arcs!
aftester27 June 2017
Love the way this show keeps getting better every single time, every episode, and season to season! Without a budget too? How's that even possible, right? These volunteers have a lot of passion and talent. Looks like some of them are doing some other great things either in Hollywood or the independent world. The writing progressively keeps up the ante to a climax in the season 2 finale with explosive moments and action with some tear-jerk ones here. I'm a forever fan! Can't wait to see the new third season, looks like major changes and surprises.

Amazing show! Can't wait for season 3 :) WARNING: Slight Spoiler
ETAe29 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This indie show has truly earned all the awards they currently have! Amazing cinematography, acting, writing, editing and directing. The story-line is unique, it keeps getting bigger and better every episode and each season seems to take it further into the realm of a Hollywood series except it's not Hollywood and there appears to be little budget and yet it looks almost Hollywood as much as these guys could make it, replete with cool action scenes and an overall adventure feel to it. It has a message as well, unlike the gratuitous types like Walking Dead. I hope they still keep making more.

Here's the slight spoiler (although it's actually pubic info from their Facebook page!): Season 3 stars the teen idol from the early 80s, Shawn Stevens! This is going to be great.
