Military policewoman Shep is helpful but Vera finds most of the suspects, resenting civilian interference, literally closing ranks. Then the traumatized colleague who admits to Dev's murder and feels he caused Ollie's death is also found dead. In fact Ollie's fate and its effect on those who were closest to him play a key role in solving the case. Written by don @ minifie-1

Murder in the army
23 July 2013 | by See all my reviews

Vera and her team investigate the supposed suicide of a highly decorated soldier and quickly realize it was murder. The victim had just returned from a second term in Afghanistan, where his second-in-command was blown up by a land mine; the rest of his squad seem seriously affected by that incident and generally reluctant to co-operate with civilian police; a female military police officer becomes Vera and Joe's only real ally.

"Sandancers" does a good job of making an essentially simple tale of revenge seem far more complicated than it is, but on the whole it's a rather unremarkable mystery; despite the change of scenery, it feels formulaic. Acting is excellent as usual. **1/2 out of 4.
