Revenge's premiere put a lot of pressure on the show considering they're both thrillers. But when the first's pilot instantly convinced me to watch its season I was still hesitating to do the same with Ringer. Sadly this third installment wasn't in the same vein as the first two. What I thought was theatrical elements in the second episode were probably only bad written ones. This time the whole mobile phone arc was almost absurd because if I ever wanted to steal something I would just hire a thief and not a dumb killer who can't even catch a girl. Bridget also keeps saying "Hello ?" every time she sneaks in an apartment and I couldn't help laughing as it reminded me of Sarah Michelle Gellar campy scenes in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The only problem is that in Ringer they're not intentional. Thankfully the photo arc was twisted and even intriguing. It put Siobhan's husband in a complete different light and blurred the lines even more. Moreover Gellar and Ioan Gruffudd's chemistry is good so their respective characters make a believable couple. As for her on-going investigation on Siobhan I find it a little awkward because the people she meets aren't suspicious nor surprised enough by her myriad of questions. The FBI agent obsessed with the twin sisters is also dead boring because Nestor Carbonelle's talent is wasted in my opinion and I couldn't care less about what Victor Machado will find out. Give us a Alexander Mahone-like character ! There were also plenty of disappointing elements. Among them are Jaime Murray's anecdotic role, the absence of flashbacks and some over the top scene like the one in the gloomy street alley. I think their mistake was to fake Siobhan's death too quickly because it didn't allow the sisters to grow on us. Do you care about what she's doing in Paris ? I don't. Still things got more interesting on Malcolm's side. As for Siobridget and Andrew their relationship has potential but it's ruined by her too sweet to be trusted best friend. Last but not least I think Revenge opened my eyes on Ringer's weaknesses. So as far as I'm concerned the last thriller standing is the first but I could be wrong considering I haven't seen its second episode yet.
