Pauly Shore's Vegas is My Oyster is a variety show featuring a number of sizable names, and some laugh-worthy moments. After the huge disappointment Natural Born Komics, and the very worthy Pauly Shore and Friends, we now get another one that is a little inferior to that one, but it goes to show that Pauly Shore has finally found his oyster, and we the audience have finally found a good comedy special.

This was taped January 9, 2011 at The Palms in Las Vegas. The celebrity appearances are by the man himself, Andy Dick, April Macie, Tom Green, David Navarro, Amber Lancaster, Michelle "Bombshell" McGee, Andrea Lowell, Maz Jobrani, Bobby Lee, Faizon Love, Bree Olson, and Charlyne Yi. The poster artwork states Carrot Top, but he is nowhere to be found in this special. Sadly, because he was on my list for one of the comics I want to see the most. Bummer.

For what it is, it's basically an hour and a half long variety show with skits, songs, and stand up by the actors above. Some comedians are in skits, and some get their own five minutes at the mic. I was hoping to see less skits, and stand up from pretty much every comedian on the list. The only ones that get stage time are Andy Dick, doing a ridiculous song, April Macie, Tom Green, Maz Jobrani, Faizon Love, and Charlyne Yi. Not even Shore gets time at the mic because there is so much to cover.

Out of everyone on the stage, I especially liked April Macie. Her type of explicit, raunchy comedy was something I wasn't expecting (think of Lisa Lampinelli but raunchier). Andy Dick's song was about two to three minutes of silence. Tom Green's song was another one I wasn't too giddy with. Maz Jobrani was funny in places. Faizon Love was hilarious. And Charlyne Yi was somewhat funny, but her "I'm a geeky girl, doing stand up, look at me" get up was very one note.

The songs seemed improvised. If not, then they were very poorly written. I would've rather seen Andy Dick and Tom Green do stand up than have them sing senseless songs. One constant gag is that Pauly Shore wants to convince the audience he is dating adult actress Bree Olson, and they are "in love." Whenever he tries to get her, she is having sex with Ron Jeremy, his son, or Bobby Lee.

The funniest skit was at the beginning with Andy Dick and Pauly Shore trying to find Bree Olson, and ask her to do the special with them. The skit mainly consists of Andy yelling at Pauly because the film they did together, In the Army Now, basically "ruined his career." It's hard to critique this special and say "this was short, that was too long, etc" because, frankly, I'm sure everyone got their turn at the mic in the real show. The problem is, there are so many people part of this show, and an eighty-four minute run time can't contain everyone. Naturally, people's performances were going to get cut out. When I watch a stand up special, I don't want it to be rushed, I want it to be funny and fluent. Vegas is My Oyster isn't.

Pauly Shore's Vegas is My Oyster is only eighty-four minutes, but feels like it should've been longer. This is the case where maybe going to the show was a better idea. Normally, stand up shows provide enough entertainment where it was almost like you didn't need to be there. It would've been better, and more fun, but you feel the TV special was pretty good. This, it feels just like a cluttered collection of skits or a clip show. It's fine, but inferior to my expectations.

Performances by: Pauly Shore, Andy Dick, April Macie, Tom Green, David Navarro, Amber Lancaster, Michelle "Bombshell" McGee, Andrea Lowell, Maz Jobrani, Bobby Lee, Faizon Love, Bree Olson, Charlyne Yi, Ron Jeremy, Don Jeremy, and Sammy Shore. Directed by: Pauly Shore.
