Sweet romance
SnoopyStyle23 November 2013
Susan Adams (Elisabeth Moss) is an emotionally damaged girl living with her abusive boyfriend Pete (Tim Guinee). Buddy Gilbert (Gavin Bellour) is her next door neighbor, and a musician with few followers. One day, he invites her on road trip as he plays in dive bars, coffee shops, and old age homes.

Gavin Bellour is a nice guy. Elisabeth Moss is playing a shy damaged girl. The romance is slow and sweet. There are a couple of good moments. However there are also a couple of badly written unnatural lines. It's nowhere near perfect. But Elisabeth is a magnetic presence. And she has a pretty voice. There are allusions to her abusive father but the subject is skimmed over. It's a sweet romance but it's a little lite.

A bit frustrating

The movie starts well and the setting (Tri-State area, I think) was good. It was refreshing to see a movie about working class people that wasn't ABOUT being working class. But the dialog after a while just became too contrived and over written. Elizabeth Moss is good at playing a slightly dim person (spacey might be a better word for her), but the script just gets stereotypical and dull. People start saying wacky things that no one would EVER say in real life, just in movie life. It ruins the realistic vibe. Okay, two more lines! IMDb likes filler apparently. Oksy the two leads have a nice chemistry together and decent singing voices.

Loved it! Heart felt love story of two kindred spirits. Had lighter funny points as well. The development of the relationship between the two main characters was fun to watch. You definitely were rooting for them to get together. The original music was great and went well with the scenes. The dynamics with each of the parents provided insight to each character's personality and quirkiness. The acting was great and you really got lost with each character and cared for them. It was refreshing to see a wholesome and somewhat innocent love story in today's world of over the top and often raunchy movies that are being made.
