Excellent second episode
14 September 2011 | by (The Last New Jersey Drive-In on the Left) – See all my reviews

This second episode continues the fine line in raw and unsparing in-your-face grittiness that was firmly established in the pilot. Pickpocket Kylie (splendidly played with steely resolve by Elitsa Bako) is faced with being sold into the sex trade by her wormy and unfaithful screw-up boyfriend Matt (a nicely oily portrayal by Matthew Carvery), who desperately needs to pay off his substantial drug debt to several vicious mobsters. Once again writer/director Jonathan Robbins keeps things appropriately rough, seamy, and unsentimental: A startling outburst of bloody and brutal violence (which includes an especially wince-inducing castration!) along with some nudity and the paint-peeling profanity gives this show a thoroughly riveting harsh and hard-hitting edge. Better still, the lovely Bako really holds everything together; she brings an intriguing blend of strength and sexiness to the tough-as-nails character of Kylie. Buzz Koffman likewise projects a strong feeling of danger and menace as scary head baddie Hatchet Man. A very neat'n'nasty little program.
