The set for the plane was built slightly larger than a standard commercial airliner, to accommodate Neeson's 6'4" height for filming.
Liam Neeson has frequently been cast as an American Agent, or soldier, but this is a rare film, where his Irish accent, which Neeson uses in most of his films, is acknowledged and explained.
The two main female cabin crew members, portrayed by Lupita Nyong'o and Michelle Dockery, share the same on-screen names as Jacqueline Bisset's and Karen Black's flight attendant characters from Airport (1970) and Airport 1975 (1974), Gwen and Nancy.
Roughly two hundred extras were cast, and stayed throughout filming.
When Bill shows his Identification, it lists his first name as William (Bill, being a nickname for William). This is Liam Neeson's real name (William John Neeson).
Julianne Moore is a big fan of Downton Abbey (2010). Since Michelle Dockery portrays the main character of Downton Abbey, and portrays Nancy in this film, Julianne would ask Dockery for possible spoilers and secrets of the show.
During the news report, the reporter says that Marks wasn't born in America, but Northern Ireland. This is a reference to Liam Neeson, who is originally from Northern Ireland. Also, Marks' U.S. passport list his place of birth as Belfast, Northern Ireland.
This is Julianne Moore & Liam Neeson's second film starring alongside each other as main characters. They also starred as husband & wife in 'Chloe' (2009).

After the news reporter states that Liam Neeson's character Bill Marks, was born in Northern Ireland, a passengers suggest that he may be a member of the I.R.A. Liam Neeson played the character of Michael Collins in Michael Collins (1996), who was the founder and leader of the I.R.A.
The airplane used in the film is a Boeing 767-300.
The aircraft is clearly fictional, a type is never referred to during the course of the film. While it appears to be the size of a Boeing 767-400, the cabin interior, door operation, and arrangement, and flight deck layout, do not match this type of aircraft.
Liam Neeson starred in three films directed by Jaume Collet-Serra: Unknown (2011), Non-Stop (2014), and Run All Night (2015).

Marks' watch is a Casio WV58A-1AV Wave Ceptor.
Liam Neeson's character name in this film is Bill Marks. In Taken (2008), Taken 2 (2012), and Taken 3 (2014), his name is Bryan Mills. Both share the initials B.M.
The Patek Philippe wristwatch on the pilot's wrist is a copy. Among other obvious faults, the model uses a design never produced by Patek Philippe. However, this point is rendered moot, since it's a fictional story.

The trivia items below may give away important plot points.

When Tom Bowen describes the person who told him to talk to Marks at the airport, the description of a white male, 30-35 years old and wearing glasses is fitting of himself, a hint at who the bad guy really is.
Body Count: five.
Reilly, a police officer, is surprised to find that Marks has given him an unloaded weapon. In Taken (2008), Liam Neeson claims that a cop would be able to feel the difference between a loaded and an unloaded gun.
When Marks opens the briefcase again to remove the cocaine, the timer inside reads exactly 13:37. This number is a reference to leetspeak, an alternative Internet alphabet used primarily in online gaming and computer hacking circles.
Liam Neeson and Linus Roache appeared together as Henri Ducard/Ra's al-Ghul and Thomas Wayne, respectively, in Batman Begins (2005); as well as cameos of the same roles in The Dark Knight Rises (2012). In the two films, however, they never shared the screen together.
