First Look at Paul Rudd in Ant-man

19 August 2014 10:11 AM, PDT | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

Yesterday marked the first day of principal photography for Ant-Man. If I’m to be honest, I’m still a bit bummed that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish have left the project. I think their take on the Marvel Universe could have been one akin to James Gunn’s approach to Guardians of the Galaxy. Alas, we are still getting an Ant-Man film and the casting is pretty great. We also have a look at Paul Rudd as Scott Lang Aka Ant-Man.

From the Press Release

San Francisco, California (August, 18, 2014) – Marvel Studios began principal photography today in San Francisco, California, on its newest Super Hero franchise Marvel’s Ant-Man. The film brings one of Marvel comics’ original founding members of The Avengers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The production also shoots on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production.

‘Ant-Man’ Makes Some Interesting Casting Additions as Production Begins

18 August 2014 3:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

For months, the mystery of who would take the reigns from Edgar Wright and direct Ant-Man dominated all coverage of the Marvel flick. But ever since the baton was passed to Peyton Reed, focus has been able to switch back to the good ol’ casting frenzy. Today, Marvel sent out a press release announcing that production has officially started in San Francisco on the much-anticipated film. That in itself is exciting enough news, with Reed also tweeting “Let’S. Get. small.” early this morning. He’s a man with a plan, and it’s on a teensy tiny scale. Good things come in small packages, haven’t you heard? But the press release contained something even more amazing: a barrage of cast members to round out the film’s core ensemble. The new additions are Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire), Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Michael Pena (End of Watch), Abby Ryder Fortson (Togetherness »

Chris Hemsworth to Lead 'The Huntsman' Prequel for April 2016

31 July 2014 11:11 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Last month came word that a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman was in the works with Frank Darabont behind the camera, but without Kristen Stewart in front of it. Instead, the follow-up at Universal Pictures was going to focus solely on Chris Hemsworth as the huntsman. Now we have confirmation from a press release by the studio that Darabont will definitely direct the film, simply titled The Huntsman, and the film will arrive on April 22nd, 2016. The film will be a prequel revealing "how the fates of two characters, The Huntsman Eric and Ravenna, intersected before they met Snow White." So there you go. Now we know why it was previously said that Charlize Theron might return, despite her fate in the original 2012 fantasy. We're not sure of any specifics regarding the story, but the current script was rewritten by Darabont himself with previous drafts by Craig Mazin (The Hangover III, »

Snow White Prequel (Stupidly) Drops Snow White, Gets New Title and Release Date

'Uncharted' Takes Old 'Amazing Spider-Man 3' Release Date

23 July 2014 11:02 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After Sony Pictures announced earlier today that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was being pushed to 2018, the studio gave Uncharted the superhero sequel's old release date on June 10, 2016. Uncharted currently has the date to itself, falling between another Sony project, the animated comedy Sausage Party on June 3 and Disney-Pixar's Finding Dory on June 17.

Here's what Sony Pictures President Doug Belgrad had to say about Uncharted's new release date.

"June 10 is a great date for Uncharted. It's just the right place for this exciting action-adventure film."

Director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief) revealed last week that production on Uncharted will begin in early 2015. This action-adventure is based on the successful video game series that follows the adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake, a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, who goes on a quest to find the lost city of El Dorado. Mark Wahlberg was once attached to play Drake, but he is no longer involved. »

‘Uncharted’ Director Says Filming to Begin in Early 2015

Sony’s developing Uncharted video game movie went through a couple of directors – David O. Russell (American Hustle) and Neil Burger (Divergent) to be exact – before it found its new captain, in Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief helmer Seth Gordon. The plan, according to the filmmaker, is for him to direct an episode or two for the comedy series Marry Me and The Goldbergs – two shows where Gordon also gets executive producer credit – before he focuses on getting Nathan Drake’s big screen debut ready for production by 2015.

Gordon told Zap2it (via IGN) that he doesn’t expect the cameras to start rolling on Uncharted until “very early” in 2015, but also that that start date is basically tomorrow by Hollywood ...

You're Going to Love the Voices Behind Disney's 'Big Hero 6'

After a few years of hit-or-miss quality films, Disney's animation studio has been on a roll lately with flicks like "Wreck-It Ralph" and "Frozen." It's looking to keep the magic alive with its newest film, "Big Hero 6," the first to feature characters from the Marvel universe.

Disney announced the voice cast behind the titular gang this week, and it's full of faces both familiar and fresh. The "6" are:

- Ryan Potter (of Nickelodeon martial arts comedy "Supah Ninjas" fame), who's playing main character Hiro Hamada, a 14-year-old genius who builds battle-bots.

- Scott Adsit (who played sad-sack producer Pete on "30 Rock"), who will voice Baymax, a plus-size robot built by Hiro who becomes the boy's best friend.

- T.J. Miller ("Silicon Valley," "Transformers: Age of Extinction"), who's voicing Fred, a laidback fanboy with a fire-breathing alter ego.

Box Office: ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Rules With $73 Million

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” swung into theaters and snagged an estimated $73 million domestic debut this weekend from audiences looking for a blockbuster with brains.

The 20th Century Fox release unspooled across 3,967 U.S. theaters and was fueled by a glowing reviews, with many critics calling it the summer’s best popcorn film.

“It’s one of those rare times when critics and audiences agree and the confluence created a perfect storm for a phenomenal opening,” said Chris Aronson, president of domestic distribution at 20th Century Fox. “A lot of the movies over the last couple of weeks have been received on the tepid side, shall we say, so the market was ripe for a high quality, visually-stunning film.”

Overseas, the film brought in $31.1 million from 26 markets, most of them smaller territories with the exception of Australia and South Korea.

5 Perfect Directors To Helm An Uncharted Movie

Sony

The Uncharted movie has been in the pipeline for some time now, even though any rumours circulating around its development are somewhat minimal at this given time: Deadline had reported some five months ago that Sony Pictures were in the middle of negotiations with Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon for the driving seat, but nothing seems to be absolutely guaranteed at this point, and the adaptation has already lost two directors previously in David O’ Russell and Neil Burger.

We’ve already discussed in a previous article why Bradley Cooper would be the perfect casting fit for Nathan Drake and it seemed like no coincidence that director Neil Burger was attached to the project as well, since the director and actor had already previously teamed up together for Limitless. However it seems Burger is now no longer attached to the project and Cooper has slipped under »

Just how bad is this summer's Hollywood box-office slump?

In addition to its truly patriotic purpose, Independence Day weekend is typically a celebration of Hollywood bombast and spectacle, with huge CG blockbusters playing non-stop in air-conditioned multiplexes around the country. It’s often the halfway point in the year where studio executives can look at the grosses and their bottom lines, exhale, uncork a nice bottle, and think, “We’re going to be alright this year.”

Not this year.

In fact, the financial data for July 4-6 was downright terrifying. Not only were grosses down 45 percent from last year’s holiday, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com, but it was Hollywood »

Box Office: Lessons From a Weak July 4th Weekend

7 July 2014 6:30 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

1. Somebody really likes "Transformers." For a smash hit film series, Michael Bay's giant-robot franchise gets awfully little love, at least in public. It's like porn; everyone claims to find it loathsome, but in secret, someone is watching it and making it a huge success. Last week, of course, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" cruised easily to No. 1 because no other wide release film was willing to challenge it. This weekend, it faced three new wide release challengers and still came out far ahead of all of them. It lost 64 percent of last week's business and still grossed an estimated $36.4 million, more than $15 million ahead of its nearest rival, and enough for a ten-day total of $174.7 million. If everyone hates these movies so much, who are the 22 million people who've already paid good money to see the fourth installment? Show of hands, please, and don't be shy.

2. Eric Bana is not a movie star. »

Transformers: Age of Extinction Still Dominating at Box Office

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" remained at the top spot at the domestic box office by adding another $36 million to bring its worldwide total to $575 million in just the first twelve days. And that's without being released in Latin America and most European countries yet. Out of the new releases, Melissa McCarthy's R-rated comedy "Tammy" performed worse than expected, but was still able to take second place with $33 million on a budget of only $20 million. That's still less than McCarthy's "The Heat" ($39 million) and "Identity Thief" ($34.6 million). The new comedy, which is a directorial debut of McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone, has a 23% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes. Eric Bana's "Deliver Us From Evil" horror film landed in third place with $15 million, which is less than the expected $20 million. The movie, which has a 32% fresh rating, cost $30 million to make, which means that it will likely become profitable. Meanwhile, Disney's "Earth to Echo »
