Melissa McCarthy is The Boss in first trailer for the uproarious comedy

20 November 2015 8:29 AM, PST | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Melissa McCarthy is the reigning Queen of comedy, and in her next film, she is literally The Boss.

Michelle Darnell was the richest woman in America, but after being exposed for insider trading, she goes bankrupt and has to move in with her former employee, played by Kristen Bell. Michelle fights her way out of her financial decline by starting up a brownie business--taking the chaos to new levels, and involving a girl scout war. The film reunites McCarthy with her husband, Ben Falcone, who co-stars as well as directs. He last directed the actress in Tammy, and has appeared with her on screen in films like BridesmaidsThe Heat, and Identity Thief. Do celebrity couples get any cuter than that? While McCarthy is known for her over-the-top performances of some very kooky characters, Michelle Darnell seems to be the most rooted in reality and satirical of the bunch. The trailer alone is laugh-out-loud funny, »

We should be so very, very grateful for Melissa McCarthy. Following the runaway success of Bridesmaids – her role in which earned her a well-deserved Oscar nomination – she has firmly and repeatedly answered the call for female-led studio films, with great performances in great movies. Now, we have the first trailer for her next release, newly re-titled The Boss, and it is clear that this glorious route to big box office is set to continue.

“Academy Award-nominated star Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, The Heat, Tammy) headlines The Boss as a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget.”

With Ben Falcone in the director’s chair, The Boss is written by McCarthy, Falcone, and Steve Malloy – and features an impressive, all-star cast. »

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit the interwebs. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.

American Sniper (Clint Eastwood)

Where a lot of recent Eastwood pictures (Changeling, Hereafter, even Jersey Boys) contain patches of awkwardness, American Sniper — particularly in its war sequences, which Joel Cox and Gary Roach edit with white-knuckle precision — exhibits a riveting level of control. This may just be the result of well-matched material (a character study about a born-and-bred cowboy nicknamed “the Legend” could hardly be more »

Box Office: ‘Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation’ Tries to Prove Tom Cruise Still a Top Gun

28 July 2015 1:49 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Tom Cruise is risking life and limb in “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” to prove he’s still one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

In the fifth installment of the two-decade-old series, Cruise clings to the side of an Airbus A400 plane during takeoff, holds his breath under water for six minutes, and rappels down the side of the Vienna Opera House. For part six, he’ll likely have to strap himself to the undercarriage of a ballistic missile and go soaring across the Pyongyang skyline if he wants to top himself.

Despite his willingness to risk doing some damage to that beautiful barrel chest, “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” may struggle to bring in crowds. The action adventure is on pace to open to $40 million, a soft opening considering the franchise’s long history and its hefty $150 million pricetag.

“It seems low to me,” said Eric Handler, an analyst with Mkm Partners. »

Seth Gordon Lands Gig to Direct 'Baywatch' Starring Dwayne Johnson

Another day, another remake. This time Paramount is finally putting together an update "big-screen take" on the 90s TV show that originally starred David Hasselhoff & Pamela Anderson. THR reports Paramount has set director Seth Gordon, of Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses, Four Christmases and The King of Kong, to take on the new Baywatch which is also set to star Dwayne Johnson. Johnson has been attached since late last year, and the project has been gestating for at least a decade. We've been hearing about some rumblings and rumors of a Baywatch movie forever, but now it sounds like they're pushing forward with it (another name brand project, of course) with Gordon in negotiations to take the job directing. I'm intrigued. Paramount's new take on a Baywatch movie has been in the works for years. The script has undergone many revisions and the latest iteration is by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. »

Baywatch movie: Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon is to direct the big screen version of Baywatch. The Baywatch movie now has a director

Seth Gordon, who directed the first Horrible Bosses movie, is being lined up to helm the big-screen version of the hit series, Baywatch.

Gordon is responsible for the superb documentary The King Of Kong, as well as the recent Jason Bateman/ Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief, so we’re expecting a tongue-in-cheek version of David Hasselhoff‘s hit 1990s TV show when it arrives in cinemas.

The film has Dwayne Johnson on board in the lead, but it has been nine months since the actor took to social media to tell us all about it. Remember what he said?

“This is my beach bitch!”

“Rumors are true… we’re making #Baywatch the movie. Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach… »

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news, noting that the filmmaker hasn't been behind the helm of a feature since 2013's Identity Thief. Gordon will be working from a script that has been written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs Jason, 2009's Friday The 13th), though it's noted in the trade that they are hardly the first writers to take a crack at Baywatch. Baywatch Movie Snags Horrible Bosses’ Seth Gordon

Paramount has been struggling to turn the ’90s TV series Baywatch into a movie since 2004, and the project has finally found solid ground tonight with word that Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon is in negotiations to helm.

Dwayne Johnson is attached to topline the pic, which will update the beloved show for modern times. David Hasselhoff, Pam Anderson, Yasmin Bleeth, Carmen Electra and David Chokach were among those who starred in the slo-mo-happy series, which always had a light and silly vibe.

The movie take is said to find Johnson playing a by-the-book lifeguard who is forced to team up with a young, carefree daredevil in order to save their beach from an oil tycoon primed to destroy the environment.

Nailing the tone for a Baywatch movie has proven exceptionally difficult for Paramount, which has sent over a dozen writers packing over the years. Now, though, the studio and producer »

Box Office Predictions: 'Ant-Man' Looms Large, but How Large Will the Marvel Movie Loomc

16 July 2015 9:09 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Laremy is a little under the weather so I'm taking over for today's predictions write-up, but the numbers are all his and he's got an interesting call at #1, at least as far as the number is concerned. He's got Ant-Man in the top slot, which isn't too surprising, but the $67 million prediction is an interesting one, but I can see where he's coming from. This is an origin story for a lesser-known Marvel character and looking back in time, in 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger opened with $65 million and earlier that same year Thor opened with $65.7 million. So Laremy has taken a mild bit of inflation in mind and gone just a couple notches higher. Of course, we can't overlook the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011 and last year's Guardians of the Galaxy, which was even more of an unknown property and it opened to the tune of $94.7 million. »
