For a music superstar who has several personas living in her creative genius, it almost makes sense that Nicki Minaj should defy all logic when it comes to musical genre.

When she dropped her album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded this week, she set herself up for two career tracks — one being Nicki Minaj, the tough Queens rapper who spits lines like snakes spit venom, and the other being Nicki Minaj, the colorful, sassy pop songstress who wants to make you pump your fists. So, does this mean she has reloaded herself as a pop star as well as Mc and picked up where "Super Bass" left off?

Being that her whole persona is built on being colorful, loud, feisty, brash and fashionable, she's the perfect combination of Lady Gaga,

A few months before the release of his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West took to Hot 97's Angie Martinez-hosted radio show to promote his G.O.O.D. Friday series, but also to make a seemingly odd proclamation. "The scariest artist in the game right now ... the scariest artist is definitely Nicki Minaj," West said. "I think she has the most potential out of everyone to be the #2 rapper of all time."

While we won't even wade into a "hottest MCs of all time" debate, MTV News' Hip-Hop Brain Trust eventually voted Nicki into the plum #4 spot on the Hottest MCs in the Game VII list.

In the summer of 2010, Minaj was the

As British boy band the Wanted embark on a U.S. tour, the five guys are eating up all the love they've been receiving Stateside. In fact, they kind of can't get enough of all the American fans they have met since kicking off their tour last week.

"Unbelievable, like we never expected it," Max George told MTV News about the shows, which have included sold-out dates. "The States is one territory in the world we always wanted to crack, and that's like the ultimate. It's been amazing."

The Wanted — made up of George, Tom Parker, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes — formed in 2009 and quickly became popular enough in the U.K. to snag touring dates with Justin Bieber. Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, has since taken them under his managerial wing,

U2 didn't even release an album in 2011, but that didn't stop them from raking in plenty of cash.

The iconic Irish quartet topped Pollstar's list of the year's most profitable tours, as their massive 360 Tour moved an impressive 2.4 million tickets worldwide, grossing more than $230 million globally. Their North American dates — which were postponed (and subsequently rescheduled) last year as Bono recovered from back surgery — made $156 million, good enough to give them the highest-grossing tour on this continent, too.

Taylor Swift had 2011's second most-profitable North American tour, as her expansive Speak Now jaunt racked up $97.7 million at the box office. Swift's country contemporary Kenny Chesney came in at #3, bringing in nearly $85 million in ticket sales, followed by Lady Gaga, who, despite wrapping up the North

More than a few hip-hop fans will point to Kanye West's single "Monster" as a defining moment in Nicki Minaj's rap career. The newcomer from Queens, New York, managed to one-up Jay-z on the track, with arguably one of the best verses of 2010, but it wasn't until this year that the Trinidad-born firecracker broke through the noise and took pop culture by storm, catapulting her career to new heights.

Fresh off a stint alongside Lil Wayne on the I Am Still Music Tour, which grossed $47 million in the U.S., Minaj — #6 on MTV News' Top Newsmakers of 2011 list — made one of her biggest career leaps when she scored a spot opening for Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Tour. Before the cross-country jaunt kicked off, the world

Best Artists Of 2011

From Mother Monster to the Throne, MTV counts down the top 10 artists of the year.

By MTV News staff

Lady Gaga

In 2011, Beyoncé asked (rather rhetorically) "Who run the world?" The answer, of course, was girls, which was pretty apt, considering everywhere you looked this year, female artists were front and center, not only running the world, but flat out dominating it.

Adele's had the year's best-selling album, by a long shot. Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift each moved 1 million units in a single week. Katy Perry continued to nab #1 singles, as did Rihanna and Britney Spears. Nicki Minaj broke through to the mainstream, B made the leap with 4, Christina Aguilera moved like Jagger ... the list goes on and on. Female artists did it all this year, to the point where you sort of forgot that dudes made music too.

Of course, they did and truly

Rapper's popularity hit fever pitch in 2011 as she toured with Lil Wayne and Britney Spears.

By Nadeska Alexis

Nicki Minaj kicked off her 29th birthday on the video set for Madonna's "Give Me All Your Love," and if that collaboration isn't enough indication of the monster year she's had, then factor in the kiss and personal birthday song Madge threw in.

Minaj released her debut album Pink Friday in November 2010, but her popularity hit fever pitch this year, which is why MTV has named the Young Money rapper the #2 in MTV's Artists of 2011 list, second only to Katy Perry.

Running off the momentum of last year — when she performed at Jay-z and Eminem's sold-out Yankee Stadium shows — Minaj joined her Ymcmb family on Lil Wayne's I Am Still Music Tour early in 2011. She then surprised even herself by landing an opening stint on Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Tour,
