Did You Know?

The title comes from the phrase "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned", which itself is a paraphrase from a line in William Congreve's 1697 play The Mourning Bride, in which the original line is, "Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned." See more »

Olivia Pope: I was wrong before about it not being your fault. It IS your fault... You love him, you do. But you can't fix everything for him. You can't. He's playing you, because you let him. You give him everything he asks for, and you clean up his messes, and you believe him even when he lies to you and that is NOT LOVE. Love is making him face who he is. The best thing you can do for him is to do the best thing FOR him It's not your fault what he did, but letting him get away with it, THAT IS your fault.

Scandal - Hell Hath No Fury
10 December 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

We see that Cyrus can be quite a master manipulator and has waged a personal/professional war with Olivia because he believes she is a detriment to his Commander in Chief, by utilizing evidence of Pres Fitz' adultery with (it is assumed) Amanda Tanner. A special ball at the White House where Fitz and Olivia meet, this is where Cyrus addresses Olivia as an adulterous whore certain to write a memoir on her sexual exploits with the Pres someday! Cyrus also lies to Fitz on how Olivia is responsible for blackmail, representing Amanda he spins that she will do whatever it takes to bring the administration down. So we see how the gloves are off and Cyrus will use tactics available to him to sustain his boss. Meanwhile, a wealthy client (JoBeth Williams), whose company has had Olivia's assistance in the past, calls on the crisis managers to help her rescue her son from a rape charge he adamantly claims he didn't commit. A previous rape charge which led to payments to keep the victim's mouth shut and her suicide could present Olivia with some unforeseen problems. Mother may have to face the fact that her son, a 27 year old kid, entitled and reckless, actually did rape a person and may get away from any conviction. Also, Olivia will need Amanda's complete trust and learns of a devastating secret that could parallel the John Edwards scandal. Olivia's reputation is under attack (falsely drummed up by Cyrus or someone who knows of Amanda's association with the Pres), and the client list her team works provides obstacles that has them having to unfurl dilemmas that challenge them in emotional and professional ways. In a subplot, we watch as Olivia averts the disaster of the Amanda story involving small-time reporter Gideon using one of her own client's difficult stories to appease him!
