Pretty setting and people but s-l-o-w as molasses

Warning: Spoilers
It was really hard to watch this as the pace was really slow - maybe it was purposeful due to the Caribbean locale? But my mind wandered and I really couldn't get into the show... Interesting concept and story but not well-executed...

Enjoyable!
jpk-8464111 August 2022
A refreshing change from the typical Hallmark story and a lovely island location! Great chemistry between the characters although the first third of the movie felt a bit choppy and slow. Wish every Hallmark movie didn't have an awkward dance scene although the one in this film was a bit less awkward than most. Hallmark needs to give their actors quality scripts that are less formulaic. There is always some sort of festival/party, awkward dance scene, then a misunderstanding causing conflict 15 minutes before the end, followed by a quick resolution. There must be writers out there that can come up with more unique and original scripts.

Fun summer movie

Enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean with this movie-great movie location, loved the leads chemistry, and fun storyline. I'm glad that we will see more of Heather Hemmens on Hallmark-she's a great addition to the network!

little more than nice
Kirpianuscus20 August 2023
I am far to be an admirer of Hallmark romances. But this film is just...different by usual expectations from genre. Sure, the same recipe, the tough moment of reveation, the so familiar end.

And , in same measure, beautiful work of supporting actors.

But... It is something who can be called fresh air. Result of performances of main actors, the mistake of Jade, the confusion about holyday house or , sure, about poitical ingredient, talk of Hughes and his father about future pans or energetic fix of things of mother of Hughes.

Important remains the fact than the scenes , one by one, just work.

And, not last, the seductive island has its precise spice role in this case.

So, just ittle more than nice.

It took a while, but I liked it
bmiller5921 July 2022
Just like every other HM movie, but that's OK. We didn't know any of the actors in this movie. As I looked through IMDB and looked at the filmography I discovered I've seen Ser'Darius in many movies, I liked him. Heather on the other hand I've never seen her or heard of her, but she was enjoyable. I thought their chemistry was great. The locale of Belize was incredible, I want to visit there and it made this movie even more enjoyable. It was like a commercial for the tourist industry there.

Didn't think I was going to like it but I did.

Ocean breeze refreshing

7.1 stars.

This is a laid back story of a bunch of people living in the Caribbean, waiting to grow old and die while soaking up as much sun as possible. The male character has been living there for years, and is a somewhat mysterious American and the female lead is a fish out of water from NYC. There is this whole fiasco with her booking a vacation rental that turns out to be a scam.

"Caribbean Summer" delivers a mix of very attractive people, all of which are minorities, no whites in this film. It's a nice change of pace, to be honest. The island ambience and music is very enjoyable and it feels like being there.

As the story continues, some of the mystery comes to light and the plot thickens. This is a rare variation of the usual Hallmark formula with a little added intrigue and scandal, a hybrid of mystery and romance. The rest of the drama/mystery unfolds into a satisfying film.

On a side note, when the leads are preparing Jambalaya where is the pork sausage, shrimp, or crawfish? Unlikely.

Watchable, but rather generic script...
paul_haakonsen12 September 2022
When I sat down to watch the 2022 Hallmark movie "Caribbean Summer", I must admit that I was expecting this to be a run-of-the-mill-and-a-dime-a-dozen type of movie. You know, the kind of sappy, predictable romantic movies that Hallmark is widely known for.

But as I hadn't already seen this movie from writers Kelly Bowe, Arlene Gibbs and Rob Loos, of course I opted to give it a chance and give it the benefit of the doubt.

Alas, director Steven R. Monroe delivered exactly what I was expecting here with "Caribbean Summer". Sure, it was a watchable enough movie, but it was a rather generic and predictable storyline, something that you've seen a million times before from Hallmark. But hey, if you enjoy these types of sappy romantic movies, then you will definitely enjoy "Caribbean Summer".

The acting performances in the movie were fair enough, taking into consideration the simplistic script and storyline the actors and actresses had to work with. I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in "Caribbean Summer", and that is something I enjoy when watching a movie.

"Caribbean Summer" is a movie that aims at a specific target audience, and you know whom you are.

My rating of "Caribbean Summer" lands on a four out of ten stars, as it doesn't offer anything that haven't already been done or seen before.

Different story
Jackbv12312 June 2022
While there are echoes of some familiar themes, play this movie through and it is a different kind of story. The major difference doesn't show up until more or less the middle. Starting out, it looks a little familiar. Jade has an embarrassing breakup and needs to escape for some recuperation. She's not a reporter, but she has that instinct and thinks she sees a story in the scam she got caught in. The workaholic doesn't want to let go and keeps communicating with her buddies back at the newsroom in NYC. Meanwhile, pretty much everyone else is telling her to slow down and relax. For a while, we see her start to do that, and in so doing she begins to notice that Ford is a hunk (which everyone else is pointing out to her).

The twist in the middle changes the whole story and peaks the viewer's interest. Unfortunately, a lot of predictable stuff happens as a direct result of that twist. Even so, I thought the twist was good and the pacing of the story also.

I didn't recognize that I had seen and loved Heather Hemmens last Christmas but also another movie I didn't like. I can't say I've seen Ser'Darius Blain before. I thought they had good chemistry even if the Ford character is pretty laid back. I liked that their initial confrontation was totally reasonable given the ridiculous circumstances. Ford had sympathy for Jade's situation and Jade, whom I thought was going to be a prima donna, acted appropriately apologetic. The obligatory misunderstanding, or really secret exposure, was also reasonably done. Jade maybe could have explained better, but it made sense how Ford reacted. These are little things, but I liked how they ran just a little bit contrary to how those things are usually done in these movies.

The dialogue has some high points. The scenery has breathtaking moments. Supporting actors are good.

This is a good one!

I've been a fan of Hallmark Channel for several years now as it's been difficult to find a TV show that's worth watching. Though Hallmark Channel movies are formulaic with many having the same basic story, they're still better than most network programing. And of course some are better than others with Caribbean Summer one of the better ones! The story here is somewhat original and Heather Hemmens and Ser'Darius Blain do a great job in the leading roles. The supporting cast is very good and the location scenery from Belize is terrific! Definitely one of the good ones from Hallmark.

A refreshing film in a beautiful setting. The lead actors had good chemistry and the supporting actors were believable. There were a few slow moments, but overall a very enjoyable film.

Relative unknowns.

My wife and I were unfamiliar with most of the cast members. We were impressed with their acting, the direction, photography, and story.

A vey pleasant movie to watch. And the scenery in Belize was fabulous!

Wonderful scenery and great story
grammajanie-2881127 January 2023
I really enjoyed this movie and would watch it again. It has a strong cast and gorgeous scenery - I felt like I'd been on an island vacation myself by the time I had finished watching. The 2 leads were great together and the character development of both of them was well done. They became more likable as the story played out. I was unfamiliar with Ser'Darius Blain but really enjoyed getting to know him here. Loved his character with the laid-back kindness. A lot of just plain goodness in this movie, which is refreshing. We should all have so much loyalty from those around us. This is a winner for Hallmark and I hope we see more of all these actors in the future.

Very different Hallmark romance
VetteRanger18 January 2023
First, most of our exposure to Hallmark romances are Christmas movies, so it was GREAT to see something with no fake snow. :-) This movie was filmed entirely in Belize, so the scenery is both relaxing and gorgeous.

The story reminds me of some books I used to read as a kids, where a family goes on vacation to somewhere like the Florida Keys and the kid stumbles into a mystery. Here it isn't a family, but a cable news producer who rents a house on a tropical island and find out she's been scammed into renting "some guy's" house. He lives there. He doesn't rent it.

He hesitantly offers to let her stay (and what real man wouldn't ... she's beautiful with a great figure LOL).

As they do pleasant island things, she wonders if he looks familiar, and thus begins the mystery ...

We VERY much enjoyed this movie.

Really good

Loved everyone in this movie. Interesting story and the main characters were great. Halfway through the movie I wanted to move to that island. I could see a great follow up to this movie. It would be easy to extend the story.

Breath of Fresh Air!!!
drkishalove5 October 2022
Wow...a Hallmark Movie that is not redundant...with the same individuals recasted...with the added bonus of representation with African American and native actors...THIS MOVIE IS DEFINITELY A WIN for me. It is such a breath of fresh air...beautiful location, new cast and a "more realistic" story line than other Hallmark Movies... I love the direction Hallmark is moving in with adding more diverse cast instead of recasting the same individuals in every movie. I love the Mahogany themed movies/story lines. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You...I have been a fan of Hallmark for the simplicity and more wholesome movies/shows...now I appreciate the intentionality in providing a more representative experience for the wider audience base.

Also loved the leading and supportive actors. Great job everyone!

Excellent

Acting was great. Enjoy adult characters portraying mature people. Sometimes Hallmark characters, especially women, act like they are twelve. This was refreshingly real.

Loved it but just one thing not resolved
hallmarkmov15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Loved the movie! Beautiful island, scenery, loved all the characters, the story, but one small thing- who did the scam rental?!!! I was hoping this would somehow tie into the dismissed trial but it wasn't and it kept bothering me. The guy is oddly calming and very accommodating about letting her stay but I guess it added to the wonderfulness of the island. Other than that this was a great movie and highly recommend! I hope more movies like this are made and that we see more of these actors again. It was easy breezy and I liked all the characters, except for the boss who I did wish was fired or something for being so sleezy. Everyone was so natural and not overacting like the a lot of the hallmark movies that came out this year. This was a pleasant surprise!

This was the new best movie I've seen on Hallmark this year. It has a really interesting plot with good characters filmed in a beautiful setting. What's not to love.
