ABC Picks Up Comedy Pilot ‘The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport’

28 January 2016 6:34 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

ABC has picked up a comedy pilot for “The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport” from writer Sarah Dunn and exec producer Aaron Kaplan, Variety has learned.

With what may be the catchiest title of pilot season so far, the family sitcom is narrated by Katie, a strong-willed mother who is raising her flawed family in a wealthy town filled with “perfect” wives and their “perfect” offspring.

Though the only details ABC provided are above, the main character has previously been described as “slightly larger,” and from the sounds of the logline, it appears the project could make a comical statement on vanity, materialism and the perception of “perfection.”

Dunn, who’s previous credits include “Bunheads,” “Manhattan Love Story” and “Spin City,” serves as an exec producer with Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment. “Fattest Housewife” marks Dunn’s first self-written TV series.

For Kaplan, the comedy is a continuation in business with ABC, »

‘Younger’ Season 2: Sutton Foster Says One More Character Learns Liza’s Secret, Teases New Love Interest

13 January 2016 6:27 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

TV Land’s critical darling “Younger” returns with Season 2 Wednesday night, and star Sutton Foster says the stakes are higher the second time around.

“Season 2 is more confident,” says Foster, who plays the 40-year-old aspiring publisher Liza who’s posing as a 20-something to help her career. “I know I feel more just confident in this character. It’s more marinated, the writing is even better than Season 1. I joke it’s bolder, sexy, wiser. It’s ballsier. A lot more ‘oh my god’ moments.”

Created by “Sex and the City” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” mastermind Darren Star, “Younger” has helped TV Land in its mission to reach more millennials with fresher programming, which is ironic, given Foster’s fake-millennial character Liza — who comes across even more hurdles in the new episodes, now that her much younger boyfriend Josh (Nico Tortorella) is in on her secret.
