"This whole thing with your family and my family is getting out of control"
skteosk13 September 2011
We may well be witnessing the demise of Home and Away here.Only time will tell, the writers may well pull a trick and wrap everything up satisfactorily, although if they do a lot of fans will end up disappointed. But it's worrying that a character like Darryl Braxton, who once upon a time would be an outsider there to cause trouble and get gone, has become so central. However much he puts on the nice guy act, it's obvious he's still knee deep in the game he claims to be wanting to get out of, putting on an act with Charlie and Casey while ordering the mostly innocent Liam beaten to cover his own back. And frustratingly, his having the local police sergeant in his pocket and in his bed is working, with Charlie letting his mother off in order to please him. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that Heath deserves to be in jail, Brax did the right thing getting the police involved and Ruby broke her promise to Charlie because it's hard to care about the characters who suffer as a result.

The innocent bystanders, the people that should be the main focus of this show, are treated as virtual extras or supporting characters. Bianca gets put through the wringer again, yet any viewer coming to this episode without prior knowledge wouldn't even know she'd just been raped.Liam gets treated as a pawn in other people's games, someone for Charlie or the River Boys to lean on to get what they want at any given time.Ruby is threatened by her own mother into covering up for her and manipulating the one person who's got her best interests at heart. And Casey, the most likable of the Braxtons, never once moves out of Angry Young Man mode.Something has to change and quickly.
