It is unlikely that anybody on the Enola Gay would have been looking at the atomic bomb blast through binoculars, since they would have known that serious eye damage would result. Further, the pilot would not have been able to do so in any case, since the plane was flying away from Hiroshima when the bomb went off and the pilot could not see things that were directly behind the plane.
