Different, and yet the same
1 October 2014 | by See all my reviews

This episode of "Les Petits Meurtres d'Agatha Christie" continues the pattern of the series to be remarkably faithful to Agatha Christie's stories in some ways, while being different and raunchy enough to shock the purists in other ways. What we have here is a Miss Marple story ("The Body In The Library") transposed to a brothel (!) and supplemented by yet another brief gay tryst for inspector Lampion, but other than that the story follows the original quite closely - perhaps even more closely than the Geraldine McEwan 2004 TV version! The one element that elevates this episode above the ordinary is Mata Gabin as Esmeralda, a real firecracker who drips with raw, uninhibited sensuality. You can see why superintendent Larosiere is so obsessed with her! **1/2 out of 4.
