The concept for "Zompire" came about the night before ideas for the final class project were to be finalized. Lucien had nothing to present, so he posted on Facebook that he needed an idea. A friend jokingly mentioned the "30 Rock" sketch, "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" and everything else grew from there. By morning Lucien had the first half of the script written.

The assignment called for each act to be filmed separately over the course of 6 weeks, so it could be critiqued in class and any problems that arose would be ironed out before the next act was filmed. To save on time and money, Lucien shot "Zompire" over the course of two 6-hour days in the first week, though he still told his professor he filmed something new each week.
