Kaleidoscope flies with Big Bird

Exclusive: UK sales outfit nabs doc I Am Big Bird [pictured].

UK sales outfit Kaleidoscope has picked up documentary I Am Big Bird, the story of Caroll Spinney, the man who has played Sesame Street’s Big Bird since 1969.

The deal covers worldwide distribution of all rights, excluding North America.

Chad N. Walker and Dave Lamattina of Copper Pot Pictures direct.

The film has played at a number of festivals including Hot Docs, AFI Docs and Docnyc.

The deal was signed by Caroline Stern, director of sales and acquisition at Kaleidoscope, and Abby Davis at Preferred Content

Stern said: “We needed only to see the first few images from the film to fall in love with it.  But as the story of the little known man behind the feathers, it takes a compelling look at how artist and entertainer Caroll Spinney brought Big Bird to life - and how that shaped him and us, globally over the »

So, this one has me frothing at the mouth.

Adam Green—director of the Hatchet franchise, suspense flick Frozen, and the extremely meta Diy show Holliston—is about to go plunging into the ether of self-referential horror filmmaking once again with Digging Up The Marrow, recently acquired by Image/Rlj Entertainment, and he’s bringing along the legendary Ray Wise (Twin Peaks) and brilliant concept artist Alex Pardee. Aspiration Media to release Noble

Fledgling La-based distributor Aspiration Media has made its first buy, taking Ur rights from Continental Media to Noble. In a separate development, Image has acquired Us rights to fantasy Afm title Digging Up The Marrow.

Stephen Bradley’s drama stars Deirdre O’Kane as Christina Noble, the Irishwoman who overcame a harsh childhood to start a charity in aid of street children in Vietnam and Mongolia.

Sarah GreeneBrendan Coyle and Liam Cunningham also star in the UK-Ireland film produced by Bradley and Melanie Gore-Grimes. Michael J Hunt served as executive producer through his company Ansty Productions.

Aspiration Media plans a spring 2015 release.

Noble won The Panavision Spirit Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, audience awards at San Diego Film Festival, Dallas International Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival and Newport Beach Film Festival and the best feature and special jury prize at the Boston Irish Film Festival.

Image Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to Digging Up The Marrow, a meta-fantasy flick from horror filmmaker Adam Green (Frozen). Green stars as himself along with a cadre of his genre pals in a story that begins when he receives a package from a mysterious man (Ray Wise) who claims he can prove that monsters exist. Kaleidoscope taking trio to Afm

Kaleidoscope Film Distribution (Kfd) is to bring a trio of new titles to the Afm including writer-director Adam Green’s Frightfest monster-horror Digging Up The Marrow.

Also new to the slate are thriller The Last Survivors and sports doc Life in Extremes.

In Digging Up The Marrow, writer-director Green turns actor as he receives a package from a strange man claiming that he can prove that monsters exist. Green and his crew are then taken on a mysterious journey into the deep underground. 

The deal for the film was signed by Caroline Stern, director of sales and acquisition, Kfd, and Cory Neal of The Hacienda Film Co. 

The Last Survivors, starring Hayley Lu Richardson and Booboo Stewart, follows two teenagers battling to survive in a barren valley where they must fight off a gang of bloodthirsty mercenaries.

Robert Englund to Appear at Film4 FrightFest 2014

“I’m your boyfriend now, Nancy.” It may be hard to believe, but it’s been thirty years since Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger said those words to Heather Langenkamp’s Nancy in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. A 30th anniversary screening of the film is taking place at this year’s Film4 FrightFest, and Englund has been announced as a member of a guest lineup that includes Alan Moore.

Taking place at London’s Vue West End, the 15th Film4 FrightFest will run from August 21st – 25th. In addition to celebrating the 30th anniversary of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Robert Englund will also be unveiling his latest film, The Last Showing.

Horror Icon Robert Englund To Attend FrightFest 2014

The central star of our recent A Nightmare On Elm Street look back, Robert Englund, has confirmed that he will be attending this year’s annual FrightFest. The event which takes place each August Bank Holiday and this year finds a new home at the Vue West End.

We had the honour of being in the great man’s presence once before and can confirm that he’s always an incredibly polite and articulate fella. Englund will be at the festival to launch his latest production The Last Showing as well as celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film that catapulted him to the status a horror icon. For those lucky enough to have tickets to the event the master of menace will not only be introducing each of the three screening of his latest venture, but also returning post credits for a Q&A session.

Frightfest Full Line-Up Released

Taking place every August Bank Holiday weekend, has become a staple film festival for those with a taste for the macabre. This year’s event sees a location change from the Empire on Leicester Square, to the Vue on Leicester Square. Film4 FrightFest's Amazing 2014 Line-up Announced! New Images Revealed!

The line-up for this year's Film4 FrightFest in London has just been announced – and boy, is it a doozy! Sporting a record-breaking 38 UK/European premieres and 11 world premieres, this August is going to be an exciting time in the genre calendar.

This year Film4 FrightFest will be moving from its previous home at Leicester Square's Empire Cinema to the nearby Vue Cinema (also on Leicester Square), prompting an ingenious reshuffle of the screening arrangements.

All main screen films will be presented at different times across three different screens, with two extra screens reserved for single-slot screenings of the various films hitting this year's Discovery Screens.
