Cute with a nice message about being true to yourself
drgr9729 March 2023
Some of the reviews on here are pretty harsh. Yes, I would agree there were some pitch issues, especially with the lead. But the songs were good, choreography was entertaining, sets and costumes were colourful and fun and the girl playing Diana was great!

The script reminded me of high school, so it was relatable. Sadly, I knew a boy who went thru the same experience as Trevor, including the bullying from peers, parents being unaccepting and so forth. Conversion therapy was involved and suicidal ideation too. Thankfully he didn't go thru with it.

Ultimately, a story that deserves to be heard until society stops needing to hear it.

An OK movie

Warning: Spoilers
OK. The best way to describe it is Ok. It goes back to the 80s which is kinda strange, but I guess the story shows its message. The plot isn't terrible, but its also not real good either. Characters are overall likable and funny. I personally think the girl with braces is the funniest. I don't remeber her name, because the movie is quite boring and I missed her name because I was complaining over how much the movie had no sense.

Its good that its release date on Disney was June, as thats pride month. Its gets really boring by the second half, which is disappointing. I was really looking forward to this movie as I love musical and the last musical I saw was Better Nate than Ever (which is in my opinion way better btw).

Anyways, if youre really into musicals, this might not be your best option.

was nice

It was nice. Very predictable though. Also i dont get why people dislike this because it's stereotypical. Like as a "stereotypical" gay male, we need stories about both feminine gays and masculine gays. Both can coexist without one being dunked on.

What you can expect but still entertaining

It is a quite stereotypical musical with a predictable storyline and all that, but overall a cute little musical to watch. It is an 80s-style high school-themed musical so do not expect too much of it.

Before you stage a show, find talent
cuseguybf29 June 2022
I saw Trevor: The Musical on Broadway in Nov 2021. I was in a theater maybe 1/3rd full and by intermission half had left because the performance was so bad.

The story could be powerful BUT the lack of vocal talent made this excruciating to listen to. I thought maybe I was wrong so when it came to Disney +, I gave it another shot. My mistake as it was as bad as I remembered.

Don't waste your time.

Did the kids parents pay for the movie?

Warning: Spoilers
Nice idea, lost in time no progression. Music could more bigger better, cinematic Characters need more of a chance to explore (all aspects) Seems it's all a crappy dream.

UGHHHH.....

Alright, as a gay male I am so sick of this ridiculous over the top portrayal of most gay men. With the huge drama moves and limp wrist of course. COMPLETELY stereotypical and ridiculous, I mean aren't most gays trying to combat being stereotyped, so why allow it to happen in movies portraying us? Storyline was SO predictable, the acting FAR too over the top and lazy. It's insulting to think that in 2022 this is what passes as "entertainment" and it's also insulting to think that any gay person would find this entertaining or appropriate. Garbage to the extreme.

Beautiful

I watched the short film years ago, when I first came out as trans. I thought it was good, but this is a much better version I think (still recommend the short film if you haven't seen it though). I really loved this musical and it is so beautifully and wonderfully done.

Okay?

The singing was not good at all. Character Trevor was good, but his singing...... Even Diana Ross's singing was bad , my god. Ouch

Lighting and costumes were fine. Plot was fine as well, not groundbreaking tho. The songs were almost all the same. There was not one song that I had great thoughts about.

Its not a musical that I'm gonna watch again...

Most real coming out story ever
frankrusso-305166 June 2023
As someone who grew up in the eighties I have to say this story was pretty spot on with how it portrayed coming out in the eighties. It was also nice to see a story where unlike Love, Simon and Heartstoppers, the character is really conflict and confused about what his newfound feelings meant.

Take away the musical and a lot of the plot rings true about coming out in the '80's and you'll understand why the Trevor Project is named after this Trevor. This Trevor is based on a story that was written back then. While they did touch on AIDS, since these are middle school kids, that wasn't the focus of the story.

Good acting, great story, great songs.
