Box Office – Dishoom clicks – Is it high time that a commercial film is hailed more?

5 August 2016 11:00 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Director Rohit Dhawan can breathe easy. His decision to take an almost five year sabbatical after Desi Boyz and then return with Dishoom has paid off. The John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer has managed to do well at the Box Office with 54 crore* coming in after the first week. The opening day was decent to good [11.05 crore], not extraordinary, and led many to wonder how the overall collections would look like. However, good pick up over the weekend and then stable collections over the weekdays meant that the film was on a right path all over again. This resulted in a good sum.

Rohit’s debut directorial release Desi Boyz had netted 46 crore at the Box Office. With Dishoom bringing in 54 crore*, there is a 100 crore total that has come between the two films, something that should please Rohit. The point to be considered here is that the »

Dishoom is a success – Will there be a franchise now?

4 August 2016 1:00 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

© 2016 Eros International − All right reserved.

Rohit Dhawan’s Dishoom is doing well on weekdays. After a good weekend of 37.32 crore, the film has collected 4.85 crore on Monday and 4.30 crore* on Tuesday, hence resulting in the total of 46.5 crore* so far. With this, the film has gone past the lifetime total of Rohit’s debut directorial affair Desi Boyz [46 crore] in 5 days flat. Of course, the quantum of business has increased over a period of time but then the fact also remains that the Akshay Kumar and John Abraham starrer was a much bigger film. Moreover, that too had Eros association to it and the corporate house can well be happy to have backed him up again.

Another man who would be happy with the association is producer Sajid Nadiadwala. Over the decades, he has had a healthy personal and professional relationship with David Dhawan [Judwaa, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi]. Now with his sons Varun Dhawan and Rohit Dhawan, »

“Dhishoom Dhishoom, Puff Pufff Pant Pant” – Subhash K Jha reviews Dishoom

31 July 2016 3:00 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Starring: John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Akshaye Khanna, Virat Kohli (just kidding) and a dog named Bradman (not kidding)

Directed by Rohit Dhawan

Rating: *** ½

Everybody in Dishoom is shown to be in  a tearing hurry. Some, like the flighty Miss Fernandez seem to be running to nowhere quite furiously. But everyone is determined to get some place.

Dishoom  is one of the most fast-paced Bollywood bromances in recent times. Bromance, it sure is. And a pretty cool one at that. With John Abraham (excellent as the strong silent sturdy he-man type) and Varun Dhawan (endearingly vulnerable clumsy but finally dependable) helming the hyperventilating hi-jinks, director Rohit Dhawan can’t go wrong.

He doesn’t.

Plus there is cricket which as we all know is religion in India. So what happens when Virat, fictionally altered to Viraj, is kidnapped by a mean money machine named Wagah (probably because »

Dishoom Movie Review

29 July 2016 7:00 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

I don’t know about you, but I for one have been eagerly waiting for buddy-cop films to come back into the limelight. Having grown up on the likes of Sholay, Main Anari Tu Khiladi and Munna Bhai, I could not have been more psyched to hear that the promising director who delivered a very hilarious Desi Boyz in 2011 is all set to regenerate this genre. Rohit Dhawan’s latest outing, Dishoom, claimed to be riding high on the 90s buddy-cop film nostalgia and promised to be an action-comedy entertainer that is not to be missed. But does it really end up doing all these things?

Yes and no. For starters he delivered the action he promised. In fact it seems at one point that the older Dhawan brother had set out to give another fellow Rohit a run for his money as the movie delivered one interesting car chase after another. »

John Abraham and Varun Dhawan are coming together for the first time in an action film Dishoom. The trailer, which was unveiled a few weeks ago, has created quite a buzz with its dangerous action sequences.

Now, we hear that there will be a Desi Boyz reunion in Rohit Dhawan's second directorial venture. Akshay Kumar will be making a guest appearance in the film reuniting with his partner in crime John Abraham. As per reports, Akshay Kumar's entry will be at a point where John Abraham and Varun Dhawan are seen in orange swimming trunks in the trailer. For his entry sequence, we hear that Rohit Dhawan has used the title track of Desi Boyz in the film.

Directed by Rohit Dhawan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Dishoom features John Abraham as Kabir Shergill and Varun Dhawan as Junaid Ansari, two special task force agents who team up for a 36-hour manhunt. Kangna Ranaut Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar talk about Censors

10 June 2016 9:57 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

We know Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Films' Udta Punjab has been facing major problems with the censor board. Due to excessive use of abusive language and showing the drug problems of Punjab, the film has been ordered 94 cuts in all. While the team of Udta Punjab has received a tremendous amount of support from other filmmakers and actors, some of them actually addressed the issue to media and told their stories with Cbfc. At a recent event, Kangna Ranaut spoke about how the filmmakers get bullied. She said, "We all have been very concerned with the way things are going. I am not a director and I have not been through that process. But people whom I closely work with seem extremely disturbed with the way things are and to an extent they feel bullied. They know there is a process of certification. We do not have that »

Baaghi has turned out to be a huge success and is now set to go past the 75 crore mark. While his next release Housefull 3 is all set to open huge as well on 3rd June, the game is also set for his third release of 2016, Dishoom, which is slated for a July release.

“What makes Dishoom special is the fact that Sajid is making a film with Varun Dhawan for the first time ever. The young star has been enjoying a cent percent record so far after a double hat-trick (since the release of Student of the Year) and it would be interesting to see him in a Nadiadwala Grandson set up,” informs our source.

Akshay and John’s Bromance Nostalgia on the sets of Dishoom

24 February 2016 12:00 AM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Having Akshay Kumar and John Abraham share screen space leaves their fans feeling nostalgic as the paring of these actors have always proved to be a grand success in the past. They have jointly delivered major hits like Housefull 2, Garam Masala and Desi Boyz.

Akshay was seen riding on a bike and looks like we are in for a treat with some breath-taking stunts by the superstar. Akshay is no stranger to the emirates. He filmed Baby in Abu Dhabi in 2014 and a year later, he was in Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah to film his recent box-office success Airlift.

When asked about his frequent visits to the UAE the actor said, “It’s always nice shooting in the UAE ,” to The National earlier during a visit to Dubai to promote Airlift. “Plus, you just can’t shoot like this in Mumbai. They won’t close a part of »
