Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who most recently scripted “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” will produce and adapt the book written by Olivia Koski, head of operations for Guerilla Science, and Jana Grcevich, an astronomer who has presented at the Hayden Planetarium.
The project is inspired by Koski and Grcevich’s work with Guerilla Science on the Intergalactic Travel Bureau, a retro futuristic pop-up travel agency that plans vacations to space for the public.
New Paramount Players Chief Brian Robbins Talks Strategy for the Digital Age
Paramount Players said Thursday that the story is set 50 years in the future when tourism within our solar system has become almost routine, a family trip turns into a life or death struggle to return to Earth when something goes terribly wrong. The
According to the site, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, Terry Crews, Jane Krakowski and Sean Cullen have all signed on to the film; Rudolph will play Nanny, Short and Krakowski as Father and Mother Willoughby, Crews as Commander Melanoff and Cullen in the dual role of twin boys Barnaby A and Barnaby B.

The project is based on the Lois Lowry children’s book of the same name. Rudolph will be the voice of Nanny, who looks after the Willoughby children. Crews is voicing candy mogul Commander Melanoff, and Short and Krakowski will voice Father and Mother Willoughby, parents so in love with each other that they forget they even have children. Cullen voices the twin boys Barnaby A and B.
Ricky Gervais was previously announced as the narrator of the film, which follows the four Willoughby children. When abandoned by their selfish parents, they embark on an adventure through the modern world, colliding with a cat, an orphan, a nanny, and a candy mogul, to reunite with the “family they were born into.”
NBC Bets on Maya Rudolph, Martin Short to Revive
“Ricky has such a distinctive voice, and his talents will make an exceptional contribution to the edgy tone that we are going for with The Willoughbys,” said producer Brenda Gilbert of Bron, which previously worked with Gervais on his 2016 comedy Special Correspondents.
The Willoughbys was published in 2010 and “book follows the four Willoughby children, who are abandoned by their oblivious parents and must learn how to adapt their old-fashioned values to the contemporary world in order to create a modern family.”
Written and directed by Kris Pearn (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2) and co-directed by Cory Evans, the film is in preproduction at Bron's studio in Burnaby, B.C. Bron's Brenda Gilbert, Aaron L. Gilbert and Luke Carroll are producing. Gervais is an exec producer.

Kristine Belson, president of Sony Pictures Animation, made the announcement Tuesday. Marsden has been at the studio for six years.
Marsden has been responsible for supervising all projects on the Sony Pictures Animation slate and recently has been overseeing every aspect of the studio’s growth. Sony Pictures Animation — which is increasing its output starting in 2017 with three theatrical features, two series, a short film and a direct-to-home feature — nearly tripled the size of its staff over the last year.
Marsden produced Sony Pictures Animation’s comedies “Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs” and its sequel “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.” She also produced Walt Disney Feature Animation’s first computer animated feature “Dinosaur” and the home entertainment feature “Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas,” featuring the first CG
HBO has acquired the U.S. TV rights to documentary “David Bowie: The Last Five Years.” Directed and produced by Francis Whately, the film spotlights the legendary singer and actor’s last two albums and Broadway musical, offering new insights into the final five years of Bowie’s life through rarely-seen interviews of the man himself, archival footage, audio from the recording sessions for “The Next Day” and “Blackstar,” and unprecedented access to Bowie’s closest friends and artistic collaborators. Earlier this month, Bowie posthumously swept the 2017 Grammy Awards with five wins for his final album “Blackstar.”

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Series Coming to Cartoon Network
The project, which is being produced by Bateman and James Garavente through their production company Aggregate Films and John Davis and John Fox through Davis Entertainment, centers around “a group of couples who gather for their regularly planned game night when something goes murderously wrong.”
Bateman has been attached to the project for a few months now as a producer, but only recently signed on to star.
The film sounds like it could be a great ensemble comedy, and it surely will line up a talented cast in the weeks to come. Bateman is coming off of Office Christmas Party, which was largely panned by critics despite its adept ensemble, so hopefully Game Night delivers where that movie wasn’t able to.
"(It's) a vision of Spider-man that will take your breath away. Conceptually and visually, it will break new ground for the superhero genre."
We first reported on the animated Spider-Man almost exactly one year from today, when Sony announced the project at last year's CinemaCon. The studio had original scheduled the movie for July 20, 2018, but back in December, the studio shifted the release date to December 21, 2018. Unfortunately, the studio didn't offer any plot details regarding this project,
The two studios will technically be co-producing the upcoming Spider-Man, but it'll fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and share no DNA with either of Marc Webb's Amazing chapters.
When's it out?
The as-yet-untitled next Spider-Man movie will bow on July 28, 2017, making it the fourth film in McU's Phase Three – James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is released just a couple of months before. Filming is slated to begin in June 2016.
But you won't have to wait until 2017 to see Tom Holland's new Peter Parker in action, since he'll make his first appearance next year in the jam-packed Captain America: Civil War.
19-year-old Holland will play the youngest version

I’m “biast” (con): …but really tired of reboot fever
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
For those playing along at home, we’ve gone from — in the 1983 movie Vacation — the comedic stylings of Harold Ramis (director), John Hughes (screenwriter), and Chevy Chase (star) to — in this new sequel/reboot — the desperate flailings of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (writer-directors) and Ed Helms (star). Vacation is yet another example of screenwriters with no experience directing features being given the keys to a studio film, which is one of those great Hollywood tricks that defies all sense. And never mind the directing job! Daley and Goldstein are counterindicated just to write the script alone: they

The Griswold’s drives cross-country to Walley World in this inspired reboot of the 1983 original so Rusty reconnect with his family.
It’s important to note this film is a continuation of the National Lampoon’s Vacation series as Ed Helms takes the role as Rusty Griswold, the fourth actor to do so, and is now a father of his own. The inspiration for this Griswold to take this eerily similar trip, which the film explicitly notes the technical difference that this trip will have two sons and not a son-daughter duo, is identical to the original – for the family to be closer together in a cramped space. Ed, now portraying Rusty as the patriarch,
