Pitch Perfect Star Chrissie Fit's Last Name Wasn't Latino Enough for a Former Acting Coach

Pitch Perfect Star Chrissie Fit's Last Name Wasn't Latino Enough for a Former Acting Coach
Don't get it twisted: Chrissie Fit is proud of her roots, her family, and her last name.  An acting coach once advised the Pitch Perfect star that she should change her last name because it just wasn't reflective of her background. The actress admits that she weighed out the options but ultimately made another decision. Her former acting coach suggested that she changed her last name from Fit to her mother's maiden name, Guiterrez in order to sound more Latina.  "I thought about changing it for a second," the Miami native admitted to People. "But then I decided to drop the acting class instead. Just because my name isn't a typical Latino name...

Pitch Perfect's Chrissie Fit Almost Changed Her Last Name to Sound More Latina

Pitch Perfect's Chrissie Fit Almost Changed Her Last Name to Sound More Latina
Chrissie Fit, who plays thickly accented Flo in the third installment of Pitch Perfect, realized her passion for theater at five-years-old, performing impromptu song-and-dance routines at family gatherings. It wouldn’t be until she got older that she would face discrimination as a young Latina trying to make it in Hollywood. Before landing any roles, an acting coach recommended she change “Fit” to her mother’s maiden name, Gutierrez, to accentuate her Latin roots. But she dropped her coach instead and hasn’t looked back.

“I thought about changing it for a second,” admitted the Cuban-American actress to People Chica.

Film Review: ‘Love Beats Rhymes’

Film Review: ‘Love Beats Rhymes’
Pop star Azealia Banks enters the ring in the rap battle romance “Love Beats Rhymes” veiled in black with a microphone, a dead rose and a coffin. Her character Coco Ford, a struggling New York singer, looks like a witch, and Banks’ fans might shiver remembering that the singer-turned-actress actually is one (last year, she posted a Snapchat video of the bloody closet where she sacrifices chickens). That first image of Banks haunts the film long after director RZA, the head of the Wu-Tang Clan, attempts to exorcise it with an inspirational drama about Coco’s summer-semester poetry class. With a plot as predictable as a haiku, RZA and screenwriter Nicole Jefferson Asher would have done better to embrace the strangeness.

Coco is at a crossroads. Her four-person freestyle group wants a record deal, but the three dudes in the band don’t want to write down lyrics — especially her flaky crush Mahlik (John David Washington of “Ballers

The Bellas Are Going Out With a Bang in Pitch Perfect 3

The Bellas Are Going Out With a Bang in Pitch Perfect 3
In this day and age, the word sequel can have a bit of a dirty connotation. At the very least, the concept is a bit tired and overused. Sequels can be dreaded, and don't even get us started on third installment.  But sometimes there are movies so good, so hilarious, so unexpectedly awesome that a sequel (or a full franchise) is not only warranted but wholly embraced. When the original Pitch Perfect hit theaters it seemed like it might be an unimpressive run-of-the-mill slapstick flick, or an overly-cheesy musical. As is written in the history books, it was none of those. The flick turned out to be shockingly hilarious and the Bellas' version of top-40 were catch af. (See: "Cups" by Anna...
