Storyline

Kevin and Robyn Keenan drop off their daughters, Katie and Gracie, at Grandpa's house before they head off to a graphic designer convention. Katie and Gracie watch an old mafia movie on TV with Grandpa. They then "take care of" their toys and a barking dog. When their mom calls to check up on them, she instructs them to "take care of Grandpa." Slightly uneasy with this request, the girls do as they are asked and get to ride bikes as a reward. This film was made as a part of the 2011 Houston 48 Hour Film Project. Written by Nick Mann

These kids are SICK!
10 August 2014 | by (Valhalla) – See all my reviews

I was looking ion IMDb for a short about a mobster "hearing the pitter patter of reindeer o the rooftop" at Christmas time and it goes exactly like how you'd expect it to. I looked at the premise and thought "Well, the premise looks like it would lend a hand to some jokes" but instead I got one of the most downright psychopathic short movies I have ever seen in my life.

The plot is that 2 little girls go to their grandfather's house and while there they watch a gangster movie and through this they pick up the influence to destroy their toys, kill the family dog as well as a phone call from their parents asking them to "take care of Grandpa".

This isn't funny. I wanted to see something like if it was some kind of message about how violence affects youth (Even though I personally think that's bullshit) then please, why are they successful in killing animals and their own grandfather just because of misunderstandings? And even if they are trying to throw at me "violence affects youth" crap then the way they go about it is that it's less like that and more like the kids had some extreme mental problems that go beyond that one movie.

To be fair though (I can't believe I'm writing this in a premise like that) the child actors are decent, even though something about them sent the message to me that they were meant to be younger and the premise could have worked if it had the right handling. The cinematography, there's something really off about it. At the end of the day, unless you want 2 demonic little girls killing animals and people played out for laughs (I still can't get over if you put the keywords in "Mafia" "Comedy" and "Short Film" that this is one of the first on the list) then really, don't watch it. I like watching short films for upcoming talent but this isn't one of the times I'd say I hated it.
