Plot Summary

At first glance, they lead a picture-perfect marriage: the surgeon Anne May and the damage analyst Peter Kramer are successful in their professions, have two well-off children, little Tommie and the teenager Tessa, and their designer house in a Munich suburb is also impressive. But cracks are appearing behind the perfect facade: the fire of her former childhood love has suffered noticeably in everyday married life, Peter throws himself into his professional obligations and shortly before her 40th birthday Anne is consumed by a consuming dissatisfaction: job, children, beautiful house, Feeling routine - should that have been all? When Peter is on a long business trip in Sweden, Anne meets Carolin Winter, the mother of David, a school friend of Tommies. Carolin, who comes from Chile, is so completely different from her: spontaneous, fun-loving, unbound. Anne lets herself be carried away by the passion of her new acquaintance, soon the two women are bound by a deep bond of trust; Carolin even manages to persuade the reluctant Anne to celebrate her birthday. Peter, who surprisingly comes home from Sweden, finds - contrary to what he had expected - by no means a depressed and irritable Anne, but a radiant, relaxed woman. His joy at Anne's good mood ends abruptly when she introduces him to Carolin: Peter knows this attractive woman only too well, having had a relationship with her many years ago, which Carolin ended at the time so as not to endanger his family life. But now his former lover, whom he could never forget, is in front of him in person. Carolin doesn't know how to deal with the situation either. Helpless and confused, she turns away from Anne and also forbids David from having any further dealings with Tommie. Anne is perplexed by Carolin's dismissive behavior. But then she discovers the truth. Everything changes for her - her love for Peter, the happiness of her marriage and, last but not least, her friendship with Carolin. Anne never wants to have anything to do with either Carolin or Peter again. Then Carolin falls seriously ill. Written by ARD Das Erste
