Summoned from meeting with her recommended attorney, Gavin Q. Baker III (whose daunting retainer fee leaves her touchy and volatilely irritable), Brenda looks into the death of registered sex offender John David Dale, found wrapped and buried at the base of an illegally constructed retaining wall in an elite neighborhood. While most regard the incident as good riddance to bad rubbish, Brenda finds it more than odd that John David Dale's body was discovered thanks to a complaint ostensibly e-mailed from John David Dale himself while he was dead.
