This documentary about the rivalry between athletes Zola Budd and Mary Decker just about crosses the finishing line
This somewhat thin documentary revisits a story of athletic rivalry that marked the careers of two runners and in some ways overshadowed their other achievements. The reigning queen of the track, the American Mary Decker had yet to win an Olympic medal. Her main challenger was Zola Budd, a teenage South African who ran barefoot and was raised on a farm. The press scented a story and, after Budd was controversially granted British citizenship in order to compete in the 1984 Olympic Games, did everything it could to stir up tension between them. Disaster struck when the pair collided and Decker fell, later blaming Budd for the incident. In fact, the film argues, the media had most cause to feel guilty. A belated reunion between the two athletes reveals little about either.

Over the last few years I’ve grown such a huge admiration for horror comics. It was a genre I wasn’t too familiar with aside from a few Tales From The Crypt issues that found their way into my chubby hands when I was a kid. For a long time there, it seemed like comics were mere products of geek culture, but the onslaught of mainstream comic book adaptations (mainly thanks to Marvel) have popularized the medium and drawn in several demographics. As an adult, my horror comic fascination started with Scott Snyder’s Severed and his American Vampire series. These comics have big name collaborations (Stephen King!) and even draw large crowds at conventions. This past year, I waited six hours in line at C2E2 to meet Snyder, but it was completely worth it. The selection of horror comics, however, isn’t too big so I scram »

Following a successful film festival run, director Brandon Slagle's "House of Manson" - a tense crime drama based on the life of notorious criminal Charles Manson, will be making its debut on digital platforms and physical media on August 5th in the United States from Gravitas Ventures.
Previously released in the UK as "Manson", the film follows the life of Charles Manson from childhood to his arrest at Barker Ranch following his involvement in the deaths at the Tate and Labianca residences (among others) during the summer of 1969, which ultimately led to his trial and sentencing.
The film stars Ryan Kiser (Dead Sea) in the title role of Charles Manson. Having previously portrayed the role in the unrelated short film "Lie" in 2009, Kiser's performance has gained accolades for his fresh take on the character, portraying him not as the ranting caricature often seen in low budget film adaptations of the story but as a flawed, human individual who also happens to be responsible for some of the most heinous acts in United States history.
Also garnering acclaim is Devanny Pinn's (The Black Dahlia Haunting) chilling portrayal of Susan Atkins, who has since died in prison of brain cancer, and Reid Warner's (Oren Peli's Area 51) harrowing and unsettling take on Charles "Tex" Watson - who now ironically runs a Christian outreach program from prison.
Rounding out the cast is Tristan Risk (American Mary) as Abigail Folger, Suzi Lorraine as Sharon Tate, as well as Serena Lorien, Erin Marie Hogan, Britt Griffith, Chriss Anglin (Supergirl), Julie Rose, and Maxine Wasa.
The film received awards and nominations from festivals all over the world including Snowdance, Canada International Film Festival, International Euro Film Festival, North Hollywood Cinefest, Action On Film, Twin Cities Film Festival, and The California Film Awards.
"Slagle should be applauded... 4.5 out of 5 Stars" - Dread Central
"Devanny Pinn is outstanding as the chilling Susan Atkins" - Starburst Magazine
"A stellar and true to life film that is engaging as it is terrifying."- HorrorMovies.ca
