Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • There's some blood early on when a mother thinks she's had a miscarriage.
  • The family dog is stabbed offscreen, the camera follows a man as he runs into the kitchen and sees his pregnant wife holding a bloody kitchen knife, upset and not making much sense. Small amount of blood on the floor leading to poor dog who is lying under the dining room table, when the man comes home after rushing it to the vet he tells the woman the dog didn't make it. He has a pretty large bloodstain on his t-shirt from when he picked up the bleeding dog.

Profanity

  • Kyle swears a lot under duress (so does Rachel, but less than Kyle). Overall, not a ton of swearing.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Kyle smokes briefly.
  • Some beers are had at a baby announcement party.
  • Kyle goes out with friends in order to blow off steam and does several shots of whiskey (they are seen drinking as well).
  • Someone mentions that in the past, a character took medication for depression that her doctor prescribed.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • You have your standard spooky noises at night, people walking through dark hallways alone, etc. Very creepy atmosphere overall that increases, especially intense towards last half of movie.
  • Several jump scares involving frightening sounds, growls, screams and very unnatural voices, as cameras and sound/recording equipment (and in one case, an ultrasound machine) either malfunctions or picks up something supernatural.
  • The last two-thirds of the film are somewhat tense as Rachel's pregnancy comes along and we know that something's not right with the child, also Rachel's mental state deteriorates despite all her family's attempts to keep her healthy, which becomes increasingly disturbing.
  • The final scene where Rachel goes into labor and gives birth in her bedroom during a blackout, only lit by camera light, is very intense. The moment when Rachel calmly holds her newborn baby and without warning, stabs and kills it, is meant to be the most upsetting and shocking scene in the movie (and will have the intended effect on most viewers).
