BBC America has announced that it is expanding the cast of the second season of its Douglas Adams adaptation Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, with John Hannah, Alan Tudyk, Amanda Walsh, Aleks Paunovic and Tyler Labine set to appear as guest stars alongside Samuel Barnett’s Dirk and Elijah Wood’s Todd.

Here’s the official character descriptions:

John Hannah (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marley’s Ghosts, Atlantis, A Midsummer Night’s Dream) will play the Mage; a powerful wizard who takes great pleasure in doing evil and is seeking to conquer a world not his own.

Alan Tudyk (Rogue One, Firefly, Serenity, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Maze Runner, Death at a Funeral, DodgeBall) will play Mr. Priest; a ruthless, dangerous, and violent bounty hunter working for Blackwing.

Syfy Lands 'Ghost Wars' Drama Starring Vincent D'Onofrio, Kim Coates

Syfy is adding another acquisition to its scripted offerings.

The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has acquired 13-episode drama series Ghost Wars from Nomadic Pictures, with Simon Barry (Van Helsing) as showrunner and starring Vincent D'Onofrio and Kim Coates.

The drama, set in an Alaskan town overrun by paranormal forces, will premiere in the U.S. on Syfy and elsewhere globally on Netflix.

Netflix's 'Travelers' Adds to Season-Two Cast

Person of Interest star Enrico Colantoni has boarded Netflix's time-travel sci-fi drama Travelers.

Colantoni will play Vincent, a mysterious individual who may or may not be a friend of the travelers, and will star opposite lead Eric McCormack. Also guest-starring in the second season shoot in Vancouver is Stephen Lobo (Continuum) and Sanctuary star Amanda Tapping, who also will direct multiple episodes.

Travelers follows a group of people from the future who have discovered how to send consciousness back through time, directly into people in the 21st century. McCormack stars as FBI Special Agent Grant MacLaren, the team's leader.

Denis McGrath, Syfy's 'Continuum,' 'Aftermath' Writer, Dies at 48

Denis McGrath, the popular Canadian TV writer and executive producer with a specialty for genre series like Syfy's Continuum and Aftermath, died Thursday in Toronto. He was 48.

The Writers Guild of Canada, where McGrath was a councilor since 2008 and helped negotiate Ipa contracts with Canadian producers, said he died at St. Joseph's Health Centre following an undisclosed illness.

Television’s love affair with time travel goes back a long way. Naturally, Doctor Who was one of the early proponents of the genre and since then there have been many successful (and many less so) series bringing time travel to the small screen. Quantum Leap mixed science with humour, drama and humanity, Continuum brought some genuinely intelligent ideas and Legends Of Tomorrow has thrown a whole lot of heroes into a mainstream tale of time travel and derring-do.
