Storyline

When Cassie Blake moves in with grandmother Jane after her mother's fatal accident, in small beach resort Chance Harbor, Washington, she gets a confusing welcome, notably from five new schoolmates. Adam Conant is as helpful and (too) friendly as his jealous girlfriend Diana Meade. Haughty Faye Chamberlain, assisted by Melissa Glaser, can't resist testing the newcomer with dangerous magic, playful neighbor Nick Armstrong helps decide the others to invite Cassie to the abandoned house where they meet as the Secret Circle of magic, and explain it can only reach its true potential when she joins, completing again their generation's heritage of witchcraft, evidenced in grimoires. But it killed several of their parents, and when Adam's father, barman Ethan, tries to warn Cassie about the dangers, Diane's father Charles forcefully yanks his chain. Friendly, patient Adam starts overcoming Cassie's disbelief and reluctance, hostile Faye's abuse of power makes her reconsider everything. Written by KGF Vissers

I Sensed A Great Start When I Began this Show
22 January 2014 | by (Washington, USA) – See all my reviews

I promise not to ruin the show for you new viewers as far as the show as a whole, so I am reviewing the episodes one at a time as I re-watch them so that you can get a feel of the reviews as the season progresses.

This episode was actually a really great pilot, and not many pilots can always say that. Sometimes they are missing vital information, start at a horrid time mark, or move to slow with endless back-story. This episode, thankfully, did not.

The rhythm of this episode was wonderful, it wasn't too fast or too slow and it held my attention the whole episode, as well as left me wondering what was next.

That being said, there were some things that I didn't like with this episode. I didn't like relationship building between Cassie and Adam, seeing as how he preaches love and then instantly finds that he wants Cassie. I believe in soul-mates too, but I don't believe in faking love.

I also wasn't a fan that Cassie doesn't like or want magic, that was a downer.
